Did this former Era staff member just assert that PC Gamer and every other journalistic outlet follow SPJ guidelines? Really? Really? The mere fact that an outlet exists, has an official presence as a "news" source, means it must automatically be adhering to the SPJ code? The SPJ isn't a US regulatory body. No one is required to join it. It has no teeth and no method of enforcement. Its ethics code is a recommendation at best -- a good recommendation, but not one anyone is obliged to follow in whole or in part. Nobody can guarantee that any "news" outlet is playing the game by the "rules". I would put a very large sum of money on PC Gamer's coverage of EGS having been...sweetened, let's say. Surely I'm not the only one who remembers PC Gamer's steady stream of pro-EGS propaganda, consistently omitting tiny irrelevant facts like Tim Sweeney admitting his company was deliberately buying up exclusive distribution deals, while painting EGS as some sort of unforeseen savior slowly rising up to save us all from the tyranny of Gabe Newell and his awful pro-consumer policies. Anyone in his right mind would strongly suspect bias, if not actual payola.
Also, doesn't this count as a direct defense of Fox News? They are an "institution", last I checked.
