Vague recollection time. Back when Digg was a thing - maybe back in the second GWB administration? - there was a time when it started getting very conservative, where anything left-leaning was instantly downvoted into oblivion and everything right-leaning was elevated to the front page. Users who were publicly against the Republicans would find everything they posted was downvoted heavily, and even taking into account a general population spread, it was clear that something was going on.
And, of course, it was. There was a secret forum for a group that called themselves the Digg Patriots, and they were collaborating on making the place conform to their worldview. Someone they didn't like made a post? Point it out on the forum and they'd instantly get hundreds of downvotes. One of them wanted to post a link to Fox News? The members could elevate it to the top of the page, every time.
And what those people had in common with the troons and wokescolds of ResetEra was a zealot's obsessive streak and too much free time. The only potential difference, and this reflects poorly on ResetEra, is that it's quite possible that if such a thing were to be implemented, that the troons wouldn't even have to organise on a Discord - they'd be able to, out in the open on the forums, just 'Ugh, transphobe' a post, and the user would get an instant ban. And the mods already know that if they know what's good for them they won't cross the troon brigade, because the REEEEEEing will make it mandatory they quit.
Incidentally, I'd guess there's numerous forums, from subreddits to places like Something Awful and Metafilter as well as ResetEra, which already have channels that go beyond places to bitch about other users they don't like. We know NeoGAF had one for the mods, after all. While the point of the Digg Patriots is that they were explicitly created to mess with the site, it's likely the troons who talk in their private channels would vehemently deny that they're organising pile-ons in their 'safe space' - it just happens that one of them will point out a post and say, 'I can't believe we have to deal with this shit in 2019. I just don't have the spoons to deal with this phobic shit,' and then suddenly that post and poster will get mass-reported and told to go fuck themselves by multiple people who will create entire false narratives about what was said to justify feeling offended and lashing out.
tl;dr - Sure, give the power to the users. The troons have it all except in name only anyway, might as well make it official that if they decide you're guilty of wrongthink that you're getting a ban.
