He was the project leader of Morrowind. One of Bethesda's most beloved games. Only TES he's worked on where he wasn't leading things was Daggerfall.

Todd Howard isn't openly hostile towards his audience like Neil is. He just has Peter Molyneux syndrome.

Daggerfall and Morrowind were the best TES games. It's been years but I still think Oblivion is a pile of shit. I've not even tried Skyrim.

Oblivion is really good if you mod it to hell and back. Skyrim is meh for me even with the right mods. Was pretty fun in 2011, so maybe I just played it too much.

I have no doubt Oblivion is probably halfway decent with tons of community mods and fixes. So was one of the best games ever; Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines. I just didn't like it at all. I really don't like Bethesda if we're being honest.

That said, Morrowind spent ages in development and was held together with spit and baling wire and a ton of patches. Bethesda at its best was still only fair when it comes to production management and quality control.

If you want to consider an interesting turning point, 2002, just in the aftermath of Morrowind, was when they ran Christopher Weaver out of the company.
