It's funny how they keep posting this image. They're trying to make it look like this is what pretty much ALL video game protagonists look like, but it's a poor argument for a few reasons:
First of all, it's OBVIOUSLY cherry-picked. If you can't think of just as many or MORE female characters than the amount you see here, you haven't been playing games for long. This would probably even be possible with actual BLACK characters, because they've been so common for such a long time now. Whoever made this image was deliberately steering around HUNDREDS of characters to make their point and entirely avoided any games with a cartoonish or anime-oriented style--which together probably make up over 50% of games.
It's also stupid because they actually treat these characters like they all
look the same. They're really different looking with only a few paltry exceptions. Looking at that image and telling yourself there is no diversity or difference is like looking at two dozen black men or Asians and saying, "You all look the same".
But for Resetera, this image represents the gaming landscape, and they keep using it over and over again, like they've only played PS3 releases from the past ten years from seven different studios. You'd think they'd take a realistic view of the variety the game industry provides and just
be happy for a while. But they don't want to be happy. They want to be angry so that they can complain and get MORE. And so they can validate their victim complex.
