Neopets and Virtual Pet Sites

Holy shit Neopets is still a thing?

Like, I thought it was shut down when Webkinz pretty much replaced it as the "in" thing for that age group, at least based on my sister's behavior at the time when she was in that target age range.

Yup. I remember Webkinz too. I'm such a young'un. Webkinz could never compare though because even though it was 3D with a customizable house and etc., it was like a Neopets you had to pay for. Also they forced you to buy a new pet at least every year (maybe closer to 6 months?) or else your account would expire.

I used to like Neopets when I was really, really little, but yeah, I'm the same, I left right when Viacom bought it. I used to collect slushies and I had a really, really big collection too.

I was mad keen on Neopets back in like, 2004. I was 8. I can't remember my password for the life of me and the whole site looks way different to how I remember it.

HOLY SHIT, when the new pet is painted Christmas color it turns into a snowy owl!

It's like a cute little owlbear thing! LOVE IT!

I'm getting all nostalgic again over Neopets, I remember putting a lot of time and effort on my slushie collection, mostly because I loved how colorful they were, the descriptions and just because a lot of them had animations. It also taught me html

Did any of you had those Neopets Tiger electronic games I had the Meridal one. It had a card with a code that gave me some plastic cybunny ears as a promo item.

Ooh I had those! I had the Aisha one and the Kougra one and that Meridell one that was like enormous haha. I had a lot of Neopets toys. I went apeshit for the Limited Too plushes when I was in like fifth grade.

Holy fuck, Neopets. That takes me back.

I remember liking Neopets mainly because it combined two of my favorite things back when I was 12 or something: Virtual pets and small little addictive flash games. I remember not trying very hard to optimize my Neopets for the battle arena or really giving them all that much or whatnot to begin with. Just kind of enough to keep them happy and that was really it for me, because I was both lazy and enamored with Halo and Runescape at the time as well and eventually I had to dedicate myself to something.

Still surprised it's a thing tbh.

I owned one (though it may of been a similar Neopets product) that was basically Tamogochi that had a Krawk. I remember spending time on it before losing interest, causing the virtual pet to run away.

I TOTALLY LOVED THOSE PLUSHIES! I had that limited edition purple chia.

also, remember these robots? I had a Uni and Kacheek one.

My robot Uni's name was Jenna and my Kacheek's name was Blueser because I thought loser was the funniest word when I was 10 or 11ish.

I wish I still had my plushie collection. I had a bunch of rare ones in there... They were victims to garage sales.

Neopets was also my gateway drug to roleplaying and furries, especially babyfurs (they did these teen daycare roleplays), TNT desperately tried to keep them at bay to the point they went pretty much Draconian with the filters, but some snuck past the radar. At first it went completely over my head and I just thought they were a little weird but after going on ED everything completely flashed back to me

I also remember my first gifted roleplay on there when I was 11, I made my character an actual savant and in a Warrior cats I made an actual knight since it was just "warriors"...

Oh my gosh guys, you are making me all nostalgic!

Apparently very recently they fired all the staff who were working on neo at the time because apparently they were bought by someone else.

Ah, yeah, Knowledge Adventure (the company that owns JumpStart) bought Neopets last year. They seem to be wanting to introduce more Facebook/mobile aspects; they put out a mobile app game a few weeks ago. Most of the users aren't too impressed considering the site's been even glitchier than usual ever since the buyout and server change.

I had the Scorchio robot toy! I think I had the Usul and a couple others too, but I can't remember which.

The blue Aisha plushie from Limited Too was my favorite stuffy for a while haha. I think I still have it somewhere, it's very well-loved.

I used to go to neopets like in 2005-6 or thereabouts. I was off for a few months, and when I tried to log back on, the account was frozen for some reason. I forget if it was inactivity or someone trying to hack my account, but they wouldn't unfreeze it no matter what. I didn't even bother to create a new one. Not worth it if you can arbitrarily lose everything for no apparent reason.

If anyone cares, registration is open on Flight Rising until 5:30 AM PST tomorrow!

I actually got back on my account and have been playing for a week or two. It's pretty fun if you like pet sites and/or dragons!

I've been playing since 2002, and still go there every so often. I used to be pretty into it - was even a paid member until I lost most of my stuff twice within about three months at the beginning of last year.
