New Destiny Update's Coming, and With Big Problems....

It's this kind of crap that makes me want an industry crash. Maybe then the new publishers won't pull horrible decisions made to pander to 12 year-old Activision/Ubisoft apologists.
I think the industry is already crashed and burning. From what I've heard about Assassin's Creed Unity, Ubisoft released and an unfinished buggy piece of shit game much like Sonic Boom. Is it just me or are developers these days only looking for a quick cash grab?

The game industry isn't crashing.

The game industry has been predicted to crash for quite some time, and it's usually based on people eyeballing things like companies milking dlc as "these companies are getting desperate, that must mean consumers will stop buying their products and the game industry will crash".

There's a video this guy Smudboy made as a response to a video by a user named Clever Noobs who predicted the game industry would crash last year. And he made a lot of very well constructed points, including using footage from the Atari documentary "Once upon Atari" and using actual economics related to how much ET sold vs how much they spent on it. His argument is basically these companies still make money on these games, no matter how shitty they are. GTA5 was one of the most expensive games ever produced and it became one of the best selling games ever, last year. A big reason why Atari failed was because they made most of their games, and when they went out of business they took the most popular console with them. So consumers had no confidence in buying games since the market was flooded with clone systems.

The game industry is vastly different than it was in the mid 1980s. There are three consoles, one of which is mostly all first party titles. Then there's PC and the indie scene is making millions of dollars. Games also cost significantly more to make and take much more time to produce, so clone systems/clone games are much harder to flood the market. ET was made in only a few weeks. GTA5 took 4 years to produce. If Ubisoft, EA, and Activision died tomorrow, the game industry would not crash. People would instead migrate to different franchises on different platforms. It's inconceivable for a crash to occur unless there is widespread consumer dissatisfaction with purchasing games on any platform.

The argument that a crash is imminent is also a pretty good indicator of the huge amount of despair boner flogging going on.

It's all a load of drek.

Please tell me you aren't still playing this Jaimas.
Nope!

Been playing Earth Defense Force: 2025 with KidKitty and company, where I've been reminding my strike group why I'm in charge:
EDF%202025%2001022013%20%2825%29.jpg

And Warframe, where I am now petting strange dogs without regard for where they may or may not have been:
BB6CF91D1F344132FACE05F57A4B9E13F14348E7

And sometimes even Team Fortress 2 when I need to leave my mark upon society:

I've come to realize something about Destiny - the period of time I played this game was the least productive period of my life since I discovered Ragnarok Online, and that is not something I wish to re-live. Maybe if Bungie elects to completely un-fuck itself, I may return, but for now, between Christmas events for Warframe, periodic theme-battles with Kidkitty in Dark Souls, zipping around the old homestead periodically in TF2, and blowing up Ants with a satellite laser in Earth Defense Force 2025, there's way better and more fulfilling games I can and should be playing.

In conclusion, fuck yourself, Bungie.

Also, this:

It got worse. Way worse.

As of this moment, players are locked out of weekly events (including the Weekly Heroic and Nightfall Strikes, which are necessary for XP boosts and Strange Coins) unless they buy the DLC.

Oh, but there's more.

Vendors are now carrying Light +33 gear and enhanced weapons, meaning you can now get to level 31 without the RNG.... And completely and utterly dicking over anyone who did the previous Raid, which did not scale accordingly. If you bought one of the older vendor weapons/items, congratulations: TOUGH SHIT. Any old legendary gear you maxed still has the same shit stats and thus you need to do it all over again for reasons of GO FUCK YOURSELF. The entire VoG is now entirely worthless because the Light boosts are lower than the items you can fucking purchase. Even if you're lucky enough to get the nigh-godly gear from the Raid, it has less stat boosts and lowered performance compared to shit you can now buy.

To those that have played through time and time again, only to be shafted by this game's drop system, kept fighting the VoG because that was the only way to level up, congratulations: Your dozens of hours of effort are now entirely moot, because better gear is fucking purchasable. And yet, impossibly, it fucking gets worse. The new gear now requires Vanguard or Crucible Commendations, which are only earned via ranking up Vanguard and Crucible levels. Unless you already raised those (which most players did) - then you're just fucked and will never be given the commendations for what you've already fricking done.

You are now looking at having to level up each faction 4 times just for a full set of armor that you can now do the new Raid with.

So to surmise:

* You need DLC for Weeklies
* No Commendations for Ranks already earned
* Buyable items that are about 30% better than what the Raid was offering
* But require Commendations, which are now RNG-chained
* Old Legendaries Now Worthless, even if upgraded (God help you if you had Fatebringer or something)
* Old Raid items now worthless
* Ditto Iron Banner
* Ditto Queen's Wrath
* The entire update essentially is a giant middle-finger to the existing playerbase

GG Bungie.
Makes me glad I actually got back into WoW. It may be grindy, but at Blizzard's expansions(minus pvp maps) are completly self contained. Did anyone ever tell you about how Destiny outright didn't work on collage campuses? The games netcode is such that it looks and acts like a torrenting site. It's a bit telling that a lot of the famous people from Bungie( the composer and story guy at least) left or were fired.

Feels like the exact same thing that happened to Blizzard; both of their shit has been going downhill ever since they entered a partnership with Activision.

Haven't bought Destiny yet, and it seems I didn't miss out on too much by not doing so. I mean, I really like Bungie, but I also like games not being fucked up either.
I feel the need to point out that Blizzard is still able to do right by people. They fixed Diablo 3 from a mechanical standpoint. Hearthstone's bussiness model isn't any different from other TCGs. warlords of Draenor is awsome.

They have absolutly no goddamn clue how to MMO loot balance do they? Raid gear should at least be able to get your through leveling content for the next expansion. I got through Cataclysm in WoW with Icecrown Citadel raid gear. Of course, most "expansions" don't come out 2 months after release with no real fucking content with a lvlcap boost of just 2 levels bound entirely to items. They have no clue how badly they've screwed up.

I have a hunch that Bungie may get shit together and fix this eventually, given that Dysentery is a 10-year project, and if it does, more power to it, but I'm certainly not going to buy into the DLC nor really play this that much until some fixes happen. I'm not missing much at this point, considering the expansion's confirmed to have about 2 hours worth of new content and a bunch of new guns that are barely better than what we were already using.

I find it unlikely Destiny will actually have a 10 year lifespan. If anything I suspect they'll release a sequel in a year or two that is way better than the original.

Bungie's contracted to keep this going for the next decade, actually. Barring Activision pulling the plug, this game's going for a while.

However, you wouldn't be wrong about that last part....

I always assumed that by 10 year game they meant 10 year franchise. A sequel is on the way and its tagline should be "Ready to start from zero again" or something to remind you all that soul crushing grinding was useless. As they laugh at you and dangle a season pass in front of your face.

I'm not going to even consider buying the sequel until I hear more about it after its release. Not gonna give in to the hype again after being disappointed with the first game.
