New Destiny Update's Coming, and With Big Problems....

So, I've been watching the Destiny slow-motion train-wreck. Bungie's forums are in open revolt. There's been thousands of posts by hundreds of users and Bungie is now using the same tactics employed by the brilliant minds behind Air Control and Earth Year 2066: Deleting comments and censoring threads critical of Bungie, and their handling of Destiny. I will bet dollars to Orokin Ducats that the usual suspects that bring to light such faggotry (Jim Sterling, for instance) will not cover it.

But I will. And here's probably the best of the remaining posts on the forums about it:

So... the incompetence continues, Bungie.

All I read from this "update" is: you recognize that there is a bug. A bug we've been telling you about for 4+ months. Then, you post an interview with a programmer who is tasked with fixing this bug, and he all-but admits that he has no idea how to fix it, or at least no way to fix it without breaking five other things.

Still no mention of:

Raid bugs (both Raids)(exact lists of Raid glitches and bugs are too numerous to list here)
Various armor/weapon bugs and glitches

No... we just get a lesson in the incompetence of your development team, and a snarky comment on another feature that has been asked for... well, since the damn game launched.

I call "bullshit" that a new feature takes a bit to modify/introduce. You guys gave us double the Bounty slots in less than two months. It apparently is not that difficult, I just think this is a cover-up for "we aren't really going to fix it (because our Activi$ion overlords told us not to), but we have to tell you something to placate you lesser creatures"...

This is bullshit.

No substance to the game. Their own Gamers ignored when literally hundreds of items and features that could save this game have been given to you guys. Fixes "the way we intended you to play" rather than fixing bugs and glitches that not only break their game, but renders both Raids nigh-unplayable due to said bugs/glitches. The sad thing is; most of our suggestions were advertised as a part of the game from the ads, videos, and interviews from well before the game launched. These things were already going to be in the game. Why were they cut out!? Because Bobby Kotick is a greedy, cancerous, shit-stain on the gaming industry as a whole.

I guess we really aren't going to be allowed to become Legend and "play the way you want to" like was advertised.

So little deviation in this game. Everyone looks the same because Bungie keeps an extremely limited number of armor variations in their game. Sure they added some with 'The Dark blows', but they took out more than they added when they removed the older armor sets from the game.

No word on why they made 'The Dark Blows' weapon selection absolute garbage when compared to the base game inventory or weapons.

So... the "professional" reviewers (even the ones you paid for good reviews, like IGN) are soundly rejecting and brutally criticizing Destiny and it's very obvious flaws, broken code, lack of story/lore, small cramped maps, lack of variation in the short list of missions. Gamers who play Destiny for hours per day and give you guys the same feedback as the professional reviewers but with suggestions to fix the game are being summarily ignored. At least, ignored until Activi$ion looks at it and thinks it might actually be a cheep, money-free fix...

This is such a long, gory fall from the heights you attained with Halo, Bungie. This new Bungie is a pathetic shell of the company that made Marathon, Oni, and Halo. With those games; you made a solid, fun product, and the money rolled in to you guys. Now you're giving us a shit-tier, half-assed product and trying to bilk us for money for an inferior, reskinned and recycled product.

That was a company that actually cared about the product they produce and what their Gamers were thinking about said product.

This new Activi$ion/Bobby Kotick led money-monstrosity-Bungie is an abomination, a cancer, on this industry.

But I will tell you what you have succeeded amazingly well at, Bungie. You've guaranteed, without a doubt, that I will buy no more of your games again.

Ever.

I'll stick around to see what you guys do with House of Wolves (only because I've already paid for it, and I'm not going to pay for a pathetically small DLC and then never play it); but you can forget about any other DLC's (these are not expansions), you can forget about trying to get me to purchase "Comet", and you can sure as hell forget about Destiny 2.

Have I been a bit harsh or mean in this post? Probably.

But you deserve it for this sub-standard product that resembles nothing close to what you advertised to us before launch. you brought this upon yourselves.

Vampire Nox has some of the best posts on the subject. And, purely because it's probably my favorite post ever, here's one that surmises things beautifully:

At this point in time a ban would provide me with way more entertainment than Destiny. This bizarro version of bungie can go back to whatever h&ll dimension it slithered out of.

Welcome to how a company winds up boycotted, Kiwis. Bungie will not be pulling this shit again.

Damn, I guess I was just never that into the game to notice all those problems. I was lucky enough to get the Symbiote though, and The Devil You Know before it was removed, so I guess I won't be too screwed if I ever play it again. Warframe seemed to have quite a grind to it too, though.

Honestly though, it's not bad mechanics that keeps me away from these multiplayer games, it's the communities. Nothing like having a 9-year-old describe all the sexual situations he wants to be in with my mother to break my immersion.

@Jaimas You poor soul, To get away from the grind of Destiny, You play Warframe instead.
Come here and let me give you a hug, Because I don't think you are doing well...

Yeah, but I like the grind of Warframe. It's an enjoyable grind, the sort I normally conflate with Disgaea or Dragon Warrior. Warframe is grindy in the usual F2P way, and I know that going in, so I'm cool with that. The fact that I can do faggotry like this is just a fringe benefit.

Warframe also adds new content all the time, none of which I fucking pay for. I'm always finding something fun to do in Warframe, whether it's play around with a new weapon, trade with friends now that I'm high-level in the Perrin Sequence, or get into dick-waving contests with my friends now that I have a Lanka that frequently scores six-figure damage with headshots (for example). I'll argue that it's probably the best F2P game on Steam that isn't TF2, and there's enough variety in the game that I've never really gotten bored with it. I actually got in with supporting DE because I genuinely like the game that much and my support gave me more than just some in-game currency and shiny bits - it gave me early access to new content (we could check out the hubs before the unwashed masses were allowed, as well as check out Nova prime apperance-wise, among other things).

If RNG ever fucks me for whatever reason, I can, with a few exceptions, trade for what I need if I want to build a prime frame or weapon. I can even trade for rare mods or items if I so choose. Have a faction weapon that you want but can't get? Trade a gun with someone who has one, like I did with my friend for a Telos Akbolto recently. You can even get the in-game super-currency without buying anything by trading and selling things you've found (A full set of Prime weapon/frame parts can net you 50P or more, easy - rarer ones like Vasto Prime, Soma Prime, or Bronco Prime can earn you hundreds).

On the rare occasions I have felt things slow down a little, DE's delivered with a new event (which actually matters on some level or another, and gives unique prizes which are worth getting), new content patch, or some tweak or another. So yes, Warframe is grindy as hell, but it's the sort of grind that me, a man who 100%'s Etrian Odyssey games and such can really get behind. Warframe has huge potential world-wise, and given that it's essentially a sequel to one of my favorite Xbox 360 games (Dark Sector), you'd best believe I'm all over that noise.

Now let's contrast this shit with Destiny:

A $60 retail game that has two Season Passed $20 expansions and one $30 Unpassed expansion in the works, almost none of which offers any real new content. It has a world essentially bereft of lore and content, with straightforward missions and a campaign you can complete in under a day. Destiny's grind is ridiculous to the point of cruel, with an uncooperative RNG and a game meta that essentially exists to invalidate player progress. Weapon systems which mean that making a weapon usable takes weeks of grinding and resource gathering. RNG so inherently linked to the game itself that it borders on madness: Leveling up? RNG. Getting powerful weapons? RNG. Upgrading weapons you already had? RNG. Getting a mission that isn't paywalled for the Weekly strikes if you didn't get the DLC? RNG. All with no player trading, and no player urgency whatsoever. The game, in essence, goes nowhere.

Two completely different worlds.

This game is like watching a train wreck...holy fucking shit. My mind has been literally imploded by what the fuck Bungie is doing. I think they still have Halo on the brains...unfortunately.

Don't forget the NPC characters are far better, too.

Destiny? Like, there's Dinkelbot who pretty much is not-Cortana-exposition-tron, that robot chick, the masked dude at the cool kids club tower who "speaks for the Traveler(/giant white ball looking like it's trying to do a Majora's Mask cosplay of the moon)," and...yeah pretty much those are the only characters I can recall who actually matter.

Warframe? Well...does Destiny have one of the major villains take over developer Q&A livestreams to taunt the playerbase outside of the game itself?
Off the top of my head, these are all the major characters I can recall:
  • Lotus (mission navigator and also your boss)
  • Ordis (your ship's AI. He's batshit insane but in the beneficial way for the PC.)
  • Captain Vor (the game's most prolific enemy as he's both the lowest and highest level boss in the game, also now apparently immortal and worships the Orokin religously in the latter instance)
  • Alad V (pretty much the closest thing to a mad doctor in the game, especially since his greatest creation is basically dog frankenstien. He also decided becoming the figurehead of the organic borg "infestation" was an awesome idea)
  • Fhrod Bek (leader of the Corpus basically, who often has his side projects sabatoged by the Tenno who need to "borrow" them for their own benefit. Also sounds like he smokes ten packs of cigs a day)
  • Darvo (merchant who often gets in trouble with a lot of other characters for his 50% off flash sales for Tenno on super-currency-only items like cosmetics or mod packs. The Tenno have had to save his ass both from Stalker and his own father; Bek. Amusingly, he's actually recycled from the original icon for the Pluto boss which was a robot)
  • The Stalker (speculated to be a rogue Tenno who really doesn't like the fact the Tenno supposedly killed the Orokin before going into cyrosleep. He also doesn't like people who farm bosses or, in the case of Darvo, sell his stuff on the market for 25% off)
  • Councilor Vay Hek (the loud guy in the video above, he's basically what you get if you take Palpatine and make him into a flying robot with a broken volume control)
  • General Sargas Ruk (Pyromanical Artifact hunter who likes saying things of nonsensical nature I.E. "WE WILL SQUEEZE THE GREEDY MILK OUT OF THEIR HEADS" and "WHAT FLESH LIES WITHIN THAT WARFRAME?! I WILL CRUSH IT! I WILL FILL MY LUNGS WITH YOUR DEATH!" And all that's before you actually fight him, too.)
  • Dr. Tengus (Grinneer scientist, basically everybody hates his guts - including Ruk - because this bastard is responsible for the return of the Infested AND making the Grustag Three - a team of moron assassains who strap inhibitors on defeated players that make it harder to fight Grineer and is a pain to remove without the right amounts of resources. Tengus also invented that inhibitor so the Three wouldn't keep murdering other Grineer instead)

ok yo I just got Destiny and like this fucking game is doing this initial install transferring content and keeps restarting and shit like what the fuck is goijg on is like Obama Fucking with my Xbox games or some shit?

When you spend 500 million dollars on your game you usually try and stick with the game series that you made that sold a bajillion copies before.

I remember when Bungie made good games. Halo: CE and Halo 2 will always remain dear to my heart.

That being said, this bullshit with Destiny is outrageous. Fuck you, Bungie, you disappointing husk of your former selves.

FTFY.
I rated agree cause Halo 3 didn't entirely blow, it was a big step up from their admitted failure with Halo 2 if anything.[/Halo sperg]

Well, it happened.

Bungie fixed it.

I don't even know how to respond to this, House of Wolves completely fixed every problem from the last patch, and then a shitton on top. The game is now way better and though the core problems remain, the game is, essentially, the best it's ever been now. Props all around, Bungie, it only took the fanbase threatening to castrate you with broken controllers.

Honestly, though, I'm thankful. And whilst I'll never invest as much time into it as I once did back in the day, I do enjoy playing it off-and-on with friends now that I can get actually good gear and enjoy the content.

My brother succumbed to peer pressure and bought it again along with an xbone to play it again. Despite my skepticism he seems to be enjoying it and he was the first of us to get burned out by it the first time. I haven't felt the need to get back to it but I'm glad to see that people are enjoying it again.

Ok, so I never actually got a chance to play the game untill now because of a centipede error on my university campus. Which class should I stick with?

Now if only they could do something about those servers...

I like the hunter as a good skirmisher character, hit & run tactics, that sort of thing. The warlock seems pretty popular, as the sunsinger subclass can self-revive, and the titan is amazing for team games 'cuz they can more-or-less constantly be recharging their fireteam's special abilities. It's all really a matter of preference.

But yeah, HoW made things so much better. It feels good to be able to use my old exotics/purple gear again, now that their stats can be improved. If anybody else plays on the Xbone, let me know. I'll be over here...In orbit...By myself...so alone...
