New Registrations

Keeping it low and chill when you first join any community is a great idea. Unfortunately people really don't lurk anymore, although the inability to register for a while *might* have encouraged people to have a deeper look around, nevertheless it'll certainly show who has been lurking a while or not once the floodgates are opened.
I'm of the belief to not just blindly shit on new users, and only to bully them when they act retarded. On one hand a healthy dose of self control such as thinking like '"yea I probably shouldn't post this, they'd rip me in half" is a good mentality to have to avoid issies, but it shouldn't stop new users from alltogether posting what they think should be shared to a discussion. Why else would you sign up if not to communicate?

It's totally normal to make a few slip ups when anyone is new, and some genuine newfag moments are most likely to happen. But it's one thing to make an oopsie, such as getting a bit confused here and there and missing a joke, not understanding a certain feature or board fully, or not knowing the lore of a certain person and missing context...

But it's another thing entirely to just straight up be schizo+fed+rage+sperg+doom+simp+selfdox+whore+troon posting nonstop only days after you made an account. A lot of the times it spirals into insanity rather fast. I've seen plenty of people blow up with attention and become the weekly forum cow because they either straight up didn't even know what Kiwifarms was about or couldn't be bothered to read the big massive sign that said "DON'T DOX YOURSELF RETARD" (paraphrased), and as a result they weren't prepared for the responses.

These are the people who won't read shit and won't last long here, be it a ban or chosing to leave.

I mean who hasn't taken a few Ls on the chin? Shit happens man, this is the Internet, doesn't mean you're an instant retard. Who cares if you posted cringe once or twice? no one is taking it *that* seriously, who's counting scores?
If you have a sense of humour about you and can laugh at yourself once in a while, then what's the big deal?
The ones who can't take the ribbing and sperg out instantly simply won't have a great time here, they just won't be able to laugh with the rest. (Un)fortunately you can't just read the minds of people who just signed up, they need to post bit so you get the measure of them.
Fun times for shitposters, not so much for the mods. I hope you're paid extra silver for the Christmas crunch!!

Right... Now that is cleared up, I am pleased to see that my meat is indeed, not fresh.

Man I was really hoping for another pink triangle sort of thing, picture of the steak emoji besides it perhaps? at least then you'd know the real fresh meat from the fake posers who are hucking their discount meat far past the sellby date

As a fresh meat will we ever know what makes someone fresh and what makes someone old and toughened?

Is it number of posts? I don't post much because I've not a lot to say. Just watching the grass grow. I'm not bothered

Will we get a stream of shitposts from people desperate to get their number of posts up to move away from fresh meat? Probably. Hold on to your hats

Maybe it'll go the way of highlights, something that to this day I have no idea what the criteria are when given to certain posts. Is it arbitrarily decided by mods?

The "Pick a fight with the biggest guy" meme isn't something you should ever do. If people want to check you because you're new they'll send somebody to check you and then you stand up to that guy and possibly fight him, but if you start picking fights randomly you're going to step on some toes and get fucked up. Also depending on where you are there could be race politics that make it a million times worse if you do it to somebody outside your race.

Nobody will pimp you out for cigarettes though it's not the 1990's anymore.

Yeah, it's all about the stamps these days, right? If I ever have to do a dime I'd probably just shut the fuck up, stay out of everyone's business, and protect my pudding cup (in every sense of that phrase).

You won't get pimped out against your will at all. Raping dudes in prison is like cheating on an Italian wife. You're allowed to do it, everyone knows you're doing it, nobody really cares that much that you're doing it, but if you don't keep it really lowkey and discreet everyone will see it as disrespectful and you'll probably get stabbed over it.

If I didn't know better, I'd assume your American for knowing this much about prison rape.

I assume it works the same way as senior member does (but in reverse). Post count & account age.
not if it takes a few months of activity to lose.

Unless its basis moderation team decision its likely only tied to post count and maybe login count/time logged in. There could be other triggers too like account progress, did you add an avatar picture? Stuff like that I guess. Casual users are likely going to get stuck with it for awhile or forever. It would be interesting if the titles were reactive to current conditions, eg if an active user pissed off for 3 months and came back they were 'fresh' again

I do think its an interesting idea for identifying a user who may or may not be posting false or baited information. Its a little red flag for users to trust but verify rather than accept like you might for a more established user.

Only the freshest meat for nuggies.

Well, it's definitely not time-based. I don't mind though, beyond the little pang of "that thing I never actually used is no longer an option."
I figured out a long time ago that A. most of what I want to read here doesn't require me to log in, B. most everything I have to say, someone else already has, and 4. the few times I thought I'd stumbled upon an interesting new cow, they already had a thread. (Incidentally, these are all things one can discover by lurking)

Back in my WoW social guild days, aside from a few basics, we had one golden rule, Rule 5: No rank, no rights. If you were new enough for an admin to assign you past the default rank, you were on thin ice. Any admin could kick you at any time, for any reason, even if it was just a vibe. It was integral to keeping the mini culture of the guild, to able to "Rule 5" shitters without justification.

I think the same concept can apply here. "Fresh meat spoils fast." If the meat smells a little funky or has a strange glow, I would toss it.

There are a few longtime members in this thread who aren't happy with this change, which is completely understandable. However, my guess is that Null would like to move the Kiwifarms in a slightly different direction by subtly diversifying the content. He has described this website as a 'gossip forum', and for good reason: hearsay isn't admissible in court, so the minuscule number of actionable posts on here can easily be drowned out by increasing general discussion. The culture may be diluted slightly, but it seems we don't have a say in the Great Kiwi Replacement.

It's how 4chan is still up after so many years: (not only do they willingly comply with all law enforcement, but) the discussion there is so varied that a 4chan holocaust would harm more casual users than whatever group of 'bad people' are being targeted.

KF moving back to open registration. I haven't been here long so I assumed that the Kiwifarms, like other forums and niche websites on the internet, goes through periods of open and invite-only registration.
