New Wave / Coldwave / Synthpop / Minimal Wave / Minimal Synth - New Romantic and Post-Punk are fine, too.

James Chance and The Contortions (otherwise known as The Contortions) are absolutely insane. They might not fit in this thread, they sure as hell don't fit anywhere else. They are an experimental band formed in New York in 1977. They were a part of the "no wave" scene, which was basically a deconstruction of new wave and punk, incredibly avant-garde, abrasive and unforgivingly anti-commercial.

Their sound blends and smashes together elements of free jazz, blues, new wave and post punk.

Lydia lunch, who dated james chance, ended up "confronting" joe rogan in this hysterical bit of early youtube kino

Aztec Camera were a Scottish new wave band formed in 1980.
Don't have an Aztec Camera album, but I love this song their lead singer Roddy Frame does on Ryuichi Sakamoto's album

Speaking of Sakamoto, Here is a rare track that is only sporadically available on youtube. "Return to the Womb - Tainai Kaiki Part I" which ends the Japanese version of the CD Heartbeat. The International version has "Part II", which is tunefully sung by David Sylvian and his wife Ingrid Chavez, but the lyrics is typical Sylvian word salad. The vocalist on "Part I" is Arto Lindsay.

I am necroing because I like synthpop. Surely this song by KOTO counts.
