Millennial congresswomen, they’re just like us. No, really, this one is.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, the democratic socialist and youngest woman ever elected to Congress, can’t afford to rent an apartment in Washington, D.C. before her job starts in January.

“I have three months without a salary before I’m a member of Congress. So, how do I get an apartment?” Ocasio-Cortez, 29, told the New York Times. “We’re kind of just dealing with the logistics of it day by day, but I’ve really been just kind of squirreling away and then hoping that gets me to January.”

Ocasio-Cortez shocked the country when she secured a primary victory over New York Rep. Joe Crowley, the 10-term incumbent who was widely believed to be the most powerful Democrat in the House after Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi. Before she turned to politics, Ocasio-Cortez worked as a bartender.

Now she’s telling voters not to worry about her housing situation.

“There are many little ways in which our electoral system isn’t even designed (nor prepared) for working-class people to lead,” Ocasio-Cortez tweeted. “This is one of them (don’t worry btw - we’re working it out!)”

Ocasio-Cortez is widely viewed as an up-and-coming star in the Democratic Party in the wake of her surprise win, fueled in part by her leftist policy ideas, which more closely align with millennial voters than her future congressional colleagues. She believes, for example, in single-payer healthcare and has suggested taxing Wall Street to fully fund public universities. She also supports “clean campaign finance,” and has said she will not accept corporate donations.

The quintessential lolberal. 'Muh sweden', 'woke' and doesn't even have basic forward-planning skills. I look forward to her making an even greater ass of herself when she does manage to get to Congress... if ever. She honestly sounds like the type to get lost planning a move or bus ride.

Taxing Wall Street to fully fund public universities? Well, I suppose it's better than going six figures in debt to get brainwashed and graduate with few marketable job skills.
Even the Chinese brainwashing only worked on the receptive. If you're already conservative, the seeds planted by the professor can't take root.

I want to make fun of this but she’s right, the rich have a monopoly on political power because they set things up this way and it causes nothing but problems for us average folk.
This. I'm the exact opposite of a commie, but these radicals wouldn't exist in a perfect world.

@Hortator Help a gal out, man!
I’d let her live with me rent-free :tomgirl:

These niggas know what’s up

Most of them do it to live in luxury and get rich(er), and don’t give two shits about their communities beyond what gets them reelected. She’s one of the few for whom the position actually is a burden.

Please explain to me the "burden" of going from a bartender's salary to making $174,000/year.

How does that work?

But that's wrong, as pointed out like 3 posts up. You can rant but you'd better be accurate.

I mean, she has an education from a decent school but she's still dumb as dirt. Why do so many econ students not know thing one about economics? It's disturbing.

Why doesn't she just tell her rich ass parents to get her a place?

Right, let's remember that her family fled to wealthy Westchester County from the Bronx. Can average people do that? How is this bitch not considered a privileged phony?

I’m more upset this average american citizen who’s not even filthy rich thinks she deserves a voice in our government.

Everyone deserves a voice, but some voices are more insightful, capable, and practical than others. Ocasio-Cortez is a bug-eyed nitwit.
