Nier Automata

Just finished Replicant and really enjoyed it. There were moments where it bordered on tedious but never enough to ruin the experience, but I didn't try for 100% completion just all the endings and a majority of side quests. Feel like I want to jump right into Automata since my first run through I had no knowledge of the original game.

Man, I played Gestalt at the end of my serious gamer days. I can't believe it's so big they made a remake

Half-remake, technically speaking - Replicant is the version originally made for the Japanese audience, so this is technically new content for the rest of the world that didn't import it.

I wonder if they'd make a Gestalt remake, though...

Oh, and since the original Nier only gave short snippets of the backstory on the loading screens, here's a runthrough on the timeline leading up to the start of Nier's story for anyone who's interested (although they could have made it all viewable at once for all I know.). Nier and Drakengard spoilers, obviously.

I finished Nier Replicant recently and it’s really good. The gameplay is fun, Weiss has a lot of charm, Kaine is hot.

I also gotta mention that I didn’t like Emil at first, but he grew on me. That’s hard to do with a character.

Now I wanna replay automata because I’m in the Nier mood.

I recently finished the Replicant remaster, which to be honest I never heard of on release so played Automata first. Really enjoyed getting the A and B endings, whilst the graphics look pretty bland and washed out at first glance, the aesthetic does have an oddly captivating feel to it. Plus it has to get bonus points for the word hussy as an insult.

Getting the B ending was even better, especially getting more background on the bosses. That said, repetition was starting to set in for C and D, and when you have to replay the entire first half to get to Kaine's section it feels like it was actively wasting your time. The slow text speed was an annoyance, and having to press a button after every line. Just fill the screen with text and let me read it, you don't write a book and put every sentence on a new page.

Kaine does make me wonder where her futa cock actually is. Them panties look pretty tight to me.

Considering how the original reddit poster has slowly been releasing more footage of the hidden room over time that also references the other nier game, it's apparently more advanced than any modders have been able to accomplish so far, and this tweet, this whole thing is likely a publicity stunt for the switch port and to get people talking about the series again in general.

Spoilers for the church stuff: it was Discord gay ops to promote some modding tools. "Too advanced for modding" my ass.

The anime released today. Not only does it look fucking awful and soulless, but it makes me feel like I'm taking crazy pills because most of the stuff I'm seeing is everyone saying it looks amazing.

An anime adaptation of a video game being awful? Must be another day of the week that ends with Y!

Was the game's soundtrack completely reused or was new music created for the anime?

Personally I never even understood why anyone would care in the first place. The original game already utilised its status as a game to tell the story in a way you can only do with a game, so an anime could never replicate it to begin with unless they'd play around with anime as a medium. It's like how the Ace attorney anime could never be good cause the point of ace attorney is you solving a mystery so the anime is just you watching a wikipedia summary of all the cases.

I only ever played the original automata but I've been told there's a bunch of supplimentary story material out there that's more obscure and/or untranslated so that's the type of thing I would've preferred as an adaptation, or just new supplimentary story material.
