My biggest problem with emulation isn't a moral one, choice paralysis is a real thing. I find that I don't spend much time with emulated games, and I spend more time scrolling through lists of titles than actually playing. If I just buy a single game I want to play, I'm much more likely to stick with it and enjoy it for what it is instead of constantly comparing it with what else I could also be playing at any given moment. I honestly can't stand looking at my steam games list. There's so much on it but I can't find something to play. I don't browse steam sales anymore because I can buy 10 10/10 games for a dollar and never play them, there's no point.
To go on a very unpopular tangent, my main issue is that once you are 18 you have no reason to pirate unless you are dirt poor, or it's some bullshit situation where the game is strictly not possible at consumer price or needs some extra bullshit to work that isn't worth the price.
Personally, I feel like Emulation is best as a means to be able to play games past expiration either the disc has gone defunct or consoles are no longer working. I really want to have a collection of games physically, but use emulators to play said games as getting Wiis or PS2s, even new, feel like they are going to break down at some point soon.

The only way this take could be more cucked is if you described how you hold your wife's legs while the other guy fucks her.

If a game doesn't worth the price or actively hates you then don't play it. There are loads of better games for cheap.
I don't pirate new games. If I like the game, I want to support it so they'll keep making games I like. Absolutely everything I pirate is one generation obsolete at minimum. I have my 3ds rigged up to play 3ds game files I download and even that feels kind of weird to me. But they killed the console so it's not like the devs are going to care.

And I don't want to hear anything about the used game market, where they're selling absolute shit from decades ago for 20 bucks. I'll feel bad about it when they stop trying to claim Mary Kate and Ashley: Get A Clue is worth half the price of a brand new game.

"Hey guys, I just found this hidden gem for the GameBoy Color. It's called Mary Kate & Ashley: Get A Clue and it is an epic platformer from 2000."

[Reddit]

"Gotta add this peak gaming to my retro collection."

> Prices shit-tier game at $100

This is the state of the Retro market.

Can honestly understand people emulating old games to not have to deal with this bullshit.

I don't know how old a lot of you guys are, but there used to be these things called video stores where you could rent a game or movie for a weekend for like $2 and get to play it without shelling out the full cost of buying the game. Sometimes there's a mediocre game you kind of want to try out, but it's not worth $60 to you. In the absence of being able to rent it, I'm probably just going to pirate it, play it for an hour and then never think about it again. I don't know what to tell you. It has nothing to do with not being able to afford it. Equating not wanting to piss away money on something you don't want that much to not being able to afford something is retarded nigger logic.

You can just use the two hour trial from Steam if you want to try before buying. And finding a non-journo opinion on any game is very easy. And if you don't want to spend the full 60$ wait for a sale.

Just don't be a Nigger.

Why are you playing games if you don't want to play them?

Really the only excuse to wait for a sale or use the Steam return window is if you are dirt poor.

You don't ever play a game or watch a TV show of movie that's just kind of OK for something to do?

Not voluntarily. I might play some mediocre phone game if I have no other choice, like in a waiting room or something. But if I'm at home and have free time I've got plenty of things I look forward to. I also don't have very much free time though, so that might be the key difference.

In their defense, the GBA had a lot of good 2D IP platformers that have largely, and unfairly, been forgotten. Yeah yeah yeah, those games were coming off an assembly line, those trams also had decades of experience with the genre at that point and knew what did and did not feel good.

You should stop being gullible, this is the game industry. After they get a foot in the door, they are gonna abuse AI to the max.

What do you think of AI for translation? Provided it's not trained to wokeify the text. Companies could bypass a lot of headaches. I want to see those fart huffing translators cry foul. It would be funny. We can't stop AI and we are going to have to learn to live with it and use it wisely.

The main problem with relying on AI to bypass woke localization garbage is that it's not just the translators themselves who are responsible for that shit. Some games have separate localization people who don't know any Japanese and whose only job is literally to rewrite what the translator(s) handed in to make it gayer. And you have grifting consultants who get hired to make up problems about how such and such is insensitive and needs to be changed.

The AI translation would only bypass this if the company was relying on the AI so much that they handled the entire localization process in Japan without any outside input. But that's unlikely outside some really cheap companies because the company would probably be worried they'll mess something up with native speakers getting involved, and any large company with an American branch like Nintendo is going to have that branch get uppity real quick about being cut out of the process and given less power in the greater company.

That doesn't help with games that aren't sold on Steam. Also, some games have been putting certain things such as long wait times to compile shaders, long early-game cutscenes, to make it so it goes past the 2 hour refund window on Steam. Artifact even made it where after you complete the tutorial, you get one pack to open, and once you open the pack, you cannot refund the game.

And most other digital stores have even stingier refund policies, i.e. how Sony almost NEVER gives out refunds, with the only few exceptions being Cyberpunk 2077 on PS4, Concord (and it's only because the game died in only 2 weeks and Sony only did that to make sure that they can use it as a tax write-off), and MindsEye (and Sony still rejected some refund requests for MindsEye), because of how broken those games were/are.

Exactly this. I pirate for no other reason than convenience. If the industry removes demos and rental services, then Gabe Newell comes into play "piracy is a service issue". When I like a game, I buy it and buy the sequels.
If I like the look of the game, I'll download it, play it, if it's shit, I'll delete it, if it's good, I'll buy the sequel.

Gamepass is a great service for this reason, it's just shit because they put AAA slop on there, rather than the hidden gems like they used to.

Digital Foundry reveal the nintendo Switch2 screen is worse than the 2017 Switch1 LCD screen :stress:

sw2screen.mp4

It depends on what you want out of a screen. It's motion clarity is butt cracks, but the colors and brightness is much better than the switch's screen. I prefer the switch 2's screen over it, but that's not saying much because the first screen was awful too.
