At this moment the Switch2 is worse than the WiiU, the Switch2 is a bit more powerful and thats all it have. Other than that it is just a exact copy of the Switch1 without the oled screen. It have the worst game console day one releases line up ever, and everything is behind a fucking paywall. As that aint enough you have these stupid game key cards, and Nintendo is also going woke too. The company is run by greedy people, long gone are Reggie and Iwata. Nintendo is fucking over.
The WiiU had good games (its rereleases comprise much of the well-liked Switch 1 library), but damn was that gamepad a millstone around the system's neck. The only good thing about that was popularizing gyro aim with Splatoon (though, on the other hand, it also poisoned the well of gyro aim for many by associating it with the shitty Star Fox Zero). I suppose it's a tad bit early to judge Switch 2 on the whole, but hardware wise this first version has a dogshit screen and that starting lineup is far from stellar. If I was planning to get a Switch 2 I'd at least wait for the inevitable OLED version.

Every month where Nintendo releases an exclusive game is a month where they release more exclusive games than Microsoft has in the past 5 years. That list is made by Bizzaro.
If we're talking about value proposition for their respective console, Xbox has been in dead last since the Xbox One (muh turd worldie goypass does not matter). In terms of scummy business practices, Nintendo may actually be the worst at this point.

So am I the only one here who’s not doomposting over Nintendo just yet?
Pretty much, at this point even certified Nintendo Dickriders are at least concerned with the direction they're taking the Switch 2.

For sure. That Direct was probably up there with Ravi Drums and Nintendo Land at E3 for awful showcases.
You really think it was as bad as those two infamous ones? At least here, they actually showed games that look promising.

Hey, I’ve also got my grievances with their current practices as well, many of which you guys have brought up.

With that said though, for me it’s at the very least tempered by a lot of their upcoming releases. Plus, this isn’t the first time they’ve gone through awkward and greedy phases as well, so to me, doomposting doesn’t really help at this point.

Not to say that they aren’t above criticism, quite the opposite (seriously, what’s up with the price gouging).

Personally, this Direct was when I decided it's not gonna get better. Nintendo will keep charging insane amounts for everything, drip-feeding releases and basic functionality, cutting every corner they possibly can in both technology and game quality, throwing out frivolous lawsuits and absurd patents, and getting progressively more woke, and they'll do it all because as much as people bitch about muh anti-consumer practices, they'll buy the products anyway (I'm not much better; I still bought a Switch 2, even if my cope is that a launch day system is most likely to get hacked).

The price gouging in particular is really something to behold. $70 for standard releases with some jumping straight to $80, $20 DLC released less than two months later, $40 for an 18 year old Wii game, $50 for a single amiibo, nearly $100 for a controller, $100 for a plastic Virtual Boy replica that's for some reason required to play Virtual Boy games in addition to the paid online and the expansion to the paid online. That's not just overpriced, that's an open message to the consumer base saying "yeah, we're overcharging you, what are you gonna do about it?"

As I get older, I have less and less time to spend playing video games, and dealing with every little thing Nintendo does is just tiring at this point. I'll stay for the truly great games (like Air Riders will probably be), but for everything else, I have a backlog of old games that I already know are great.

Them price-gouging can't really hurt their standing with Nintendo fanboys. If they weren't stopped by the $80 MKW and not-that-much upgrade of the Switch 2 and the obvious overcharging for extras/controllers/etc. back then, why would they be now? Yeah a 50 dollar amiibo is a total rip-off but it does neuron activation on their nostalgia-rotted brains, so they'll buy 'em anyway.

They've been upfront that they are exploiting their previous goodwill and nostalgia catalog for profit to pretty much the maximum possible, and it's not gonna sink them. Just laugh at the idiots throwing their money away and getting pissy with your popcorn and be happy. Happy that you're smarter than they are for not getting sucked into the Nintendium hivemind.

I tend to save my money for the releases that actually interest me from them. It all really comes down to the games.

That said, I was able to tolerate the price for the yearly subscription to play the older titles, but everything after that has really been trying my patience.

Oh look a frog not noticing he's being boiled
At least someone understands my point.

Yes. Switch 2 basically has no games until Kirby Air Riders in November (and even then it was really just Mario Kart and DK). What are we getting now. A Yoshi game (so a baby easy game that takes 5 hours) another Mario spin-off (like we didn't need more of those) and Fire Emblem. So two filler games and Fire Emblem. Worse, Yoshi and FE don't have release dates and neither does the other filler spin off game Splatoon Raiders. All these games are $70. Oh, and Virtual Boy on NSO (that no one fucking wanted)? $100. Those new amiibo? $40 to $50. The new DK DLC that was clearly just held off to charge for? Another $20. Pokemon DLC before the game is even out. $30. So all Nintendo really showed was filler and that they have become greedy pigs. At least Ravi was funny. This is just pathetic.

>But muh third party games
You're out of your mind if you are gonna buy a third party game on Switch 2. Just buy it on a real platform where it won't run at 12 fps. Switch is for Nintendo titles and there is nothing there worth getting unless you like spin offs and a subpar Mario Kart. Just get Crossworlds for $10 less if you really need Kart racing so bad.

Was at Target tonight and my oldest wanted to go look at the video games. Decided to take her and look. They had two Switch 2’s setup with demos for MKW and DK. We decided to play MKW first. And I have to say, the most fun I’ve had in a MK game. The new DK is hella fun as well.

As much shit we give Nintendo, they still make fun games.

lol absolutely nobody should ever buy a fucking Amiibo. Those things are ridiculous. If you desperately need the "interactive" features they "enable" on supporting games, go to Amazon and buy a hundred NFC tags, grab literally any Android or iOS phone with NFC support, and download about a megabyte's worth of compressed NFC tag data and you can literally write the Amiibo data you want to each little tag and label then as you wish. And they work just fine on the Switch, the Pro Controllers, and everything else that reads the stupid fucking things. They're literally a quarter a piece.

They're buying it to have the figure, you've missed the point entirely.

The games themselves were fairly mediocre. I think people understate how much the Switch add-ons to Wii U games vastly improve them. Mario Kart 8 is way more content rich on Switch than Wii U thanks to its improved Battle Mode and character roster.

I honestly just like the figures. Amiibo was cool when it first launched as Nintendo hardly ever made figures or any merchandise of their IPs that weren’t Mario or Pokémon. I take Amiibo more as collectibles than something one actually uses and it seems like Nintendo views them the same way given how little content they add to games.

Nintendo Land was actually great and I will die on this hill.
It deserves a sequel. It was a fun concept given the wrong timing and position. It was never going to be the Wii Sports of the Wii U given how complicated it was, nor was it well timed given the shift of casual gamers to phones. If it got a sequel on Switch, it likely would have done well.

another Mario spin-off (like we didn't need more of those)
I would be more fine with this if it wasn’t fucking Tennis, the most overdone, boring Mario sport. Sluggers has been sitting dormant for over a decade and a half and would be prime for a sequel using all the characters they just shit out in Mario Kart World. They even just recently made a Mario baseball toy that people were finding a new DK render on.

Hell, if Nintendo really wants to appeal to their black base so much, why not bring back Mario Hoops or really any of the Square sports titles from the Wii/DS era. Could really go for Hockey, Dodgeball or any new variety of sports.

Wow. I guess there is a lot of overlap between Nintendo fans and the subjects of the consoomers thread. Ah well, at least the Amiibos aren't (all) as hideous as those fuck-ugly Funko Pops.

Wonder how long before they're pricing these figurines as "enthusiastically" as the Warhammer 40k licensees. They're really squeezing those fans dry these days.

I think the Amiibos were at their worst when they were starting out, due to the limited availability at the time and the fact that they were a lot worse at locking good content behind them.

Yeah, that was also my takeaway from when I played the demo of Bananza. They still excel at making quality exclusive games.

Just a shame about the price-gouging crap. But again, this isn’t the first time that Nintendo did such ridiculous practices, hence why I hesitate to doom post.

So for me at least, I remain a fan of their games and their IPs, but will still call them out when deserved.

Exactly, even i got some of these figurines, because they have some good ones like that Castlevania one. But the first thing i did after i pulled them out of the box was to remove the shitty nfc base and throw it in the trash. Dont want any association with the nintendo assmiibos.

I feel like the most egregious thing from that direct is the fact that the $100 Virtual Boy add on doesn't even come with a Mario Clash rom or something thrown in.

It is $100 and you literally need a subscription in perpetuity to use it.

The games themselves were fairly mediocre. I think people understate how much the Switch add-ons to Wii U games vastly improve them. Mario Kart 8 is way more content rich on Switch than Wii U thanks to its improved Battle Mode and character roster.
IMO most of those games were already good, but got better on Switch. I think if you're going to try and argue they were mediocre on Wii U, but suddenly became good on Switch, you've lost the plot a little because outside 3D world, most of them were rereleased with a "Switch 2" edition volume of new content. Even Mario Kart IIRC just had some new battle mode tracks and the Inklings upon release.

I'm not accusing you of this personally, but I feel like there are a lot of modern Nintendo fans who try and pretend the Wii U first party lineup was in some way uniquely terrible to avoid comparisons with the Switch 2, when the reality is most of those first party games for Wii U got stellar reviews and everyone who played them loved them at the time. The Wii U flopped for other reasons like the retarded hardware and marketing. Botw being released on day one wouldn't have saved Wii U.

I am pretty adamant now and trading in my Switch 2. I cannot justify keeping it because second-hand trade in my area yields around £320. I think the thing that did me in was DK because it was so lacklustre.

The pricing is definitely the killing blow for me. I felt DK was not worth the price tag. Charging $90 for Pokémon AZ is fucking wild to me.
