Tbh Nintendo do some pretty good remakes from time to time but they tend to remake the short games and then charge the Nintendo premium for their entire lifetimes.

Super Mario RPG is approximately a 10 hour game, and up until about a month ago had never dropped in price. It's 'good' but not "£10 less than Smash Ultimate" good.

Prime Remaster is pretty good but you can get almost as good an experience by adding texture packs to the Gamecube version.

Nintendo make some pretty fucking good games but god do I fucking hate them as a company and have zero moral issues with pirating everything I can.

It always amazes me when I think of using my Switch, look for games on their stores, and see they still charge full price for 5 year old games.

I know that the movies aren't necessarily canon to the games but
The Galaxy movie point blank confirms that Mario has romantic feelings for Peach, so that stuff that came out last year about them just being friends might just be a load of bull, unless she's still one of those ungrateful friend-zoners that every guy has met at least once in his lifetime.

The real bizarre thing is knowing that they intentionally released Metroid Prime at a discount price and then just didn't do that for any of the other remasters. They CAN do it, they have a specific price point for that type of game and yet don't do it.

I think it's just Based on How nintendo values the specific franchise. For Metroid it isn't a series that is on the same level as Mario or Zelda. So, they feel more okay charging less for some of those games to get people into them. Whereas, If you want to play the game with Mario or link you're gonna have to pay that top dollar as they are franchises with a much bigger install base and demand.

Metroid has never sold big numbers. Metroid Dread is the highest selling Metroid EVER and it still sold under 4 million.

If Metroid sold Zelda numbers then it would have definitely been full price.

What constitutes a remake/remaster isn’t well defined insofar a common consensus is concerned. I’d count the N64 remake, the All Star Collection, the 3DS remakes of OOT/MM, etc. If you mean “substantially changed the core gameplay/story” like FF7R or the RE ones, I guess not?
I'll take a stab at it.

Improved textures (either via updated scans of original hand-drawn artwork, new redrawn artwork, or upscaling when done properly), faster (and stable) framerate, better modern hardware compatibility, higher resolution, bugs fixed (when their absence doesn't detract from classic/common gameplay, e.g. item dupe bugs should be left alone, but crash bugs should be fixed), higher-quality sounds and music (perhaps 44KHz instead of 22KHz or whatever the original had), crisper text (but not rewritten) ... all of that stuff makes for a remaster.

Changing the story, reducing female characters' breast sizes (lookin' at you, Square, w/your FF7 Remake Tifa bullshit), altering gameplay mechanics, re-recording voice dialog, changing graphics (not just upscaling/cleaning up, but actually changing them), changing the music, etc., or really adding/changing anything more than you could get away with in a "director's cut," is a remake.

These days they can't fucking resist going back and "changing it up" whenever they go back to do a "remaster" and wind up accidentally making a "remake." I'll never understand (as a straight white male) how so many people who claim to have penises and claim to be attracted to women feel so compelled to reduce the attractiveness of women in the games they remake.

The thing that always sticks in my craw is the full priced rereleases with barely any new content. Why are Wii games like Donkey Kong Country Returns and Return to Dream Land full price titles?

Donkey Kong Country Returns was a fucking $20 Nintendo Select title at one point.

Metroid sells, but nintendo knows it's one of the few series where they have to use discounts. Pretty much every gamer has heard of Super Metroid and i've seen dread put as low as 20, so i'm sure they were banking on the "I've heard Metroid is good, i'll check this out" mentally, when people see a game put on discount.

Looks like characters designed by HR representatives.
Very distinct Tumblr-Esq artstyle, that you can tell is drawn a by a woman in her late 20s, early 30s that's only living in/around middle-class urban spaces.

It seems Nintendo isn't quite done wringing blood out of the NES stone.

You know, its getting to a point where these console companies should just bundle these old 80's NES ports of arcade games with their machine for free rather than charge them separately.

40 years later and these asshole are still going to charge people more than a dollar for these crusty-ass games. They aren't even worth the quarter their arcade counterparts used to take.

A new Switch Sports game rumor is circulating. Leaker isn’t sure if fully new game or Switch 2 Edition is on the horizon.
