I don't think this will necessarily change minds but misinformation is awful and this seems to be the latest version of the subject in question, so.

No, the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition games are not just going to give you a download code.

plus cost of the online. Thats what i find the most ridiculous, buying a full price game and then still having to pay a monthly fee to be able to play it. The absolute state of consoletards
It would be one thing if the online was actually good. But i’ve had more times than i can count that i got an error when trying to log into the store. At this point, i use DekuDeals to see what’s on sale.

Also, it shouldn’t take a fucking hour to download Final Fantasy XII.

"Nintendo of America's president Doug Bowser (no relation to Mario's nemesis) was slightly more forthcoming that day."

"We recognize there are some people that may not be able to afford [the Switch 2's] price point. That's why we wanted to make the other Switch platforms available, so [people] still have an opportunity to come into our gaming universe, be a part of these characters in these worlds, and see value, if you will, in whatever rung of the platform they come in."

Kek. I hope now this is Nintendo's Xbox One tier disaster.

I legitimately think even fucking Pink Gold Peach was a better concept and playable character than 20 different Mario Enemy Glup Shitto track obstacles made into playable characters. Even including every single dumbass Koopaling was a better idea. Who on the planet looks at this roster and thinks "boy oh boy I can't wait to play as the forgettable cow roadblock enemy from Moo Moo Meadows"?
Ironically Cody Pre-Puppet ERA from SML would have the same reaction.

So a good buddy is super hype about the switch 2(he used the first one as subterfuge to get his non gamer wife to play vidya so his hobby wasn't fucked, with great success), and so he's planning to get it near about day one. He's gonna sell off a lite and a regular switch to subsidize the new one. He has this barely used gray lite and says I can cop it for 50 bucks. Is that worth it at this point? Also, what's the custom firmware situation looking like? He's selling a gen 1 switch too, but it's much more heavily used and I'd prolly just use it in handheld mode anyway. Anybody itt have any experience with day to day use and/or hacking the switch lite?

As a kid during the SNES and N64 era, the only time we got a game was at Christmas and it was a game that my dad would also want to play. Otherwise, we would go to blockbuster to rent a game for the weekend. Even that was maybe an every few months occurrence.

Me too. Christmas and birthdays. I go an NES with my Communion money. Other than that we rented or borrowed from friends. When used game stores got more popular we could get a few more games. But we didn't have enough money to CONSOOM. There are Nintendrones with entire rooms full of Nintendo related autism. If that's what you want to spend your money on fine. But I'd rather spend mine a little more wisely. The people that are handwaving $80 Switch 2 games and the upgrade fuckery are too far gone to reason with. They will be there on day one with a fistful of money gloating about how awesome it is. Nothing can change that.

Y'know. This thing might actually do worse than the virtual boy. At least that worked properly.

Someone in the comments is saying it's because of the magnets. Can anyone confirm if magnets are a factor?

There's an article here about the key cards too: https://www.theverge.com/news/644803/nintendo-switch-2-game-key-cards-trade-borrow-resell

“So key cards will start up on the console or system that it is slotted into, so it’s not tied to an account or anything,” said Sasaki.
That behavior is different from the Switch games that Nintendo currently sells in retail locations, which feature a download code instead of a physical cartridge. Those codes can only be used a single time and are connected to a specific Nintendo account, preventing them from being resold at a later date.
Game-key cards automatically trigger a game download when inserted into a Switch 2 console. Once the game is downloaded and installed, an internet connection “...is only required when you launch the game for the first time,” according to a support page on Nintendo’s website. After that initial launch check the game can be played without an internet connection, as long as the game-key cartridge is still inserted into the console.

Ok. So does that mean if a friend borrows the game they can download it without any charges? It's not really clarifying much. The game game can be played offline as long as it's in the slot. I guess it will all make more sense once people have hand on experience with the system.

It’s inarguable that Nintendo’s PR department is completely retarded.

It’s like they’ve taken every opportunity to screw themselves.

I'm pretty sure it does. I've taken it to mean that it's a lot like the PS4/5 and Xbox one/Series X discs where you insert the disc and you can download it, but then that disc acts as the license to actually play the game and needs to be inserted to play the downloaded content. I could give that disc to my friends or family and they too can download the game, but they would also need to have the disc inserted to play and if I took it back, then the downloaded game can't be played. The same, I would presume, will be true for the key cards.

Modding them's a pain in the ass; nobody bothers. It might be worth it if we do get a cart-based S1 exploit dropping with the S2 or if there's a single hardcopy game you're particularly interested in. If the heavily-used gen1 switch is one of the exploitable ones it's probably worth it for a decent price if you've got any interest in the library, although filling a card with random games isn't the simple pick-from-a-menu-and-wait it used to be a year or two ago due to Nintendo's crackdowns.

If you're thinking of cfw for emulation on it just spend the 50 on one of the cheap Chinese emu handhelds instead, most of them can do up to Dreamcast fairly well and also run Moonlight, and unlike the switch they won't hose your sdcard if an emulator crashes while scanning roms.
