It kind of reminds me of Mario Kart on the Wii. That also looks like poo.
One thing that strikes me about it, and keep in mind I have not played it, only half paid attention to a YouTube video of someone running through all the tracks, is how lifeless it seems compared to 8. Don't get me wrong, the graphics themselves are more refined, but I remember all these little living details in 8. In Shyguy Falls, for example you have the shy guys working around the track and doing their little chant along with the music at one point. When you drive down the water falls, there are these piranha plants off to the side. Just these little things that make the world feel lived in. Just all these moving elements that serve no purpose other than to make the tracks feel alive. While they put some characters in the stands and stuff in World, I dunno, it seems almost as though there are fewer of those kind of elements and a lot of driving on these desolate roads with a few buildings and other cars. It's not really a thing that affects gameplay, but it's weirdly off putting

*Edit* Moo moo meadows is a good one because it's in both games. Before you were just like on a farm with a few toads watching from bales of hay, and there were all these farm elements to the sides like cows laying down, cows walking through a big field, a little watering hole, a tractor, a milk delivery truck. They added stands with all these spectators and TV trucks and stuff, but absolutely gutted those farm elements off the sides of the track and off in the distance. It looks like a monster truck pit instead of a farm now. It also seems like the only cows now are functional ones that you can hit on the track? No more just random heards of cattle off to the side just doing cow stuff.

Early reviews for Mario Kart World seem to say while the mechanics and races are still as fun as ever, it's not as good as 8 Deluxe and the open world is basically a barren wasteland. lol LMAO
Im kind of surprised normie reviewers are cool on it like this, I sort of figured they'd all praise the open world aspect for "moving the franchise forward" like it is in every other game this concept is shoved in to. Maybe the post-nut Clarity a lot of people had with Tears of the Kingdom hit harder than I thought.

In any case, having your SINGLE launch title be a weak Mario Kart entry, one that has to
follow up the nearly decade dominating MK8 DX+DLCs, is beyond insane. I get MK sells well, but the fact they don't even have one other new exclusive until July is insane to me. Switch 1 had a similar problem at release but the concept of a portable "modern" console was enough to sell people and keep them waiting. Is 60fps and 900p portable really as much of a wow factor in 2025 as the concept of the switch itself was in 2017? I'm sure it'll sell decently, but I have my doubts its going to be as successful long term.

I love Mario Kart. I love New Super Mario Bros. But having Mario Kart as your big launch title is definitely up there with having New Super Mario Bros as the big launch title on Wii U.

My Switch 2 soy story. I passed out last night at home around 4:30 in the morning. Woke up today at 8:30 am and went to my local target. I was able to pick up the base model, they had about 8 in a cart from what I saw and they had no Mario Kart bundles. That didn't matter because I wanted just Switch 2 itself. I saw a lot of normies picking up the console. I don't think this will do gangbusters but it will take until the end of the day to sell out. Also ,the box has a funky matted feel to it. It feel like when you first wear powered gloves.
Interested to see how good the Switch 2 is. Even with the internet shitting on Nintendo. And some of it is deserved. I would love to hear how good the Switch 2 is in the hands of people.

I hate Mario Kart 9. Every race has only one lap. You enter the race and 40 seconds later it has already ended. What's even the point of circuits anymore? Even during online multiplayer the races have only one lap, and you can only pick the closest circuits on the map as the next race. I'm dumbfounded at how stupid it all is. It's a racing game without racing.
I'm not a Mario Kart aficiando (or someone who is even going to play the game lol), but what shocked me most about World is how slow the gameplay looks. The roads are super wide and there's a great deal of dead air where you're just driving forward or drifting through the same easy turns. I would say that the lack of 200cc is damaging to the game, though I'm unsure of whether this failing is due to the speed of the game or the actual track designs, which look remarkably less challenging than the ones I remember from 8.

How's the rail grinding? I don't really have a handle on how that part of the game works, so I'd be curious to know. Is it a purely on-rails section or is there some additional interactivity beyond hopping on/off the rail?

Well I've been playing Mario Kart World for a while (it turn out Nintendo shifted the download time from 9 PM PDT to midnight and I have a feeling this'll be true for future online releases too) and I completed all of the cups including the unlockable Special Cup.

I'd give it a 7/10, it's a beautiful game graphics-wise but I can see why some people would say that the game's free roam mode feels empty and that shifting the number of laps from a standard 3 laps to to 1 lap+travel sucks. I liked Knockout Tour and I strongly feel like that's what's going to do well online.

As far as the emptiness seen in Free Roam is concerned I think it's intentional, while I was watching the credits I got a feeling that the developers were trying to get a "road trip" vibe for said mode and emptiness is something that you'd kind of encounter. So they kind of succeeded, just not in a way some folks expected.

Oh, and since some folks may be wondering...
Characters are unlocked in two different ways: Proper characters are unlocked via beating Grand Prix Cups (Donkey Kong is unlocked via the Mushroom Cup, Daisy via the Flower Cup, Rosalina via the Star Cup, Lakitu via the Shell Cup, Birdo via the Banana Cup, King Boo via the Leaf Cup, and Bowser Jr. via the Lightning Cup. No character is unlocked via the Special Cup)

NPC/Creature Character are unlocked via the Kamek item: get hit by him and you'll temporarily transform into one during the race and the character. Which character you transform into is at random.

Character costumes are unlocked via the Dash Food item, which are easily found in Free Roam. Characters can have anywhere between 10 and 1 costumes. NPC/Creature racers do not get costumes.

Karts are unlocked via collecting coins just like they were in past games, it's much easier to collect coins in Free Roam mode.
I love Mario Kart. I love New Super Mario Bros. But having Mario Kart as your big launch title is definitely up there with having New Super Mario Bros as the big launch title on Wii U.
I think that's due to Nintendo being somewhat reliant on 3rd party titles (I know people have been hyping up Cyberpunk 2077 and I saw a fair amount of people at my local GameStop preordering it) and the Switch 2 Edition games supporting the system until they can get a few more titles out.

Gamestop staples confirmed. Staten Island NY

I heard some gamestop used a fucking stapler to staple receipts to the switch 2 boxes, the staple went through and fucking pierced the console lmao

Edit added image below look at screen you can see the stapler marks

People have been blaming Gamestop for this which is fair enough I suppose since they stapled the shit, but I personally blame Nintendo themselves. Nintendo really cheaped out on the packaging to the Switch 2, under the front box lid is the fucking tablet with thin plastic on it and that's it. There was a dude on Youtube who had his box all busted up in the corner right were the tablet part of the Switch was very close to damaging the system.

Nintendo put the most fragile and important part of the console in the most vulnerable spot with no fucking protection. They don't even have a cover over the top of the contents of the box like most companies use when they package their products for this very reason, protection.

Is this really what people are looking for in a Mario Kart game though? Other than a few gimmicky track features every couple of games, it's probably the one tendie exclusive above all the others people have no problem paying for just a few new tracks every couple of years for. I mean fuck, look at the continued success of MK8 DX. No need to reinvent the wheel, especially if it doesn't add much to the experience like free roam.

Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour To Require A Few Accessories For 100% Completion

2 days ago Iggy Comments 6 Comments

Earlier today, Nintendo shared an overview trailer for Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour in Japan. Now we have a couple more details to share about the game.
According to the game’s official website, you will need additional accessories to play a few of the minigames and tech demos. There are a total of 34 minigames and tech demos in the game.
However, it’ll still be possible to access all 12 exhibitions in the game, including those that feature Nintendo Switch 2 accessories that you do not own.
Here are the accessories required:
  • USB Camera – a camera is needed to play 1 minigame
  • A controller with GL/GR buttons (Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller or Joy-Con 2 Charging Grip) – a controller with GL/GR buttons is required to play 1 minigame
  • 4K-supported TV or monitor – a TV with 4K support is required to play 1 minigame and 1 tech demo
You’ll need to get all 3 medals in every minigame to 100% beat the game, so please keep that in mind before purchasing.
So it's not only a paid demo but also you need extra hardware to achieve full completion lol

this shitshow just keeps on getting better oh my god :story: :story: :story:

I am feeling beyond vindicated for calling this kind of tepid launch all the way back when the console build leaked, I still can't believe anyone was even arguing against it

Just gonna sit back and enjoy the fireworks now because this is great

maybe I'll get a Switch 2 on heavy discount in a few years when people figure out how to jailbreak it, but otherwise I'm content to sit back and play this video on loop

best part is that I get to watch my reddit stereotype of a family member finally SHUT UP and admit I was right for once after bringing this up and smugly chiding me for it NONSTOP for the last month. Holy fuck do I miss this kind of catharsis.
