The contrast between Other M and Dread is very funny.Overall, easily the worst Metroid I've played, and I personally think it's the reason Nintendo put the franchise on ice for almost a decade.

Samus not being a stoic quiet badass makes no sense in relation to lore because she was raised by a race of hyperadvanced birdmen and infused with their superior DNA when she was just a small child. Why would she be a pathetic, crying little bitch in her early twenties?I remember people mainly disliking the plot, don't know if it's just culture clash with westerners wanting Samus to be a girlboss and japanese making her demure warrior. I do remember the gameplay was also criticized in being underwhelming.
Not even that, she was crying over things she already dealt with. Other M would have made more sense if it was before the first game, but by that point, she had seen Ridley SEVERAL times before. Maybe they wanted to put the crying mechanic in the earlier games but couldn't do the technical limitation and only with the power of Wii waggle could they achieve this.Samus not being a stoic quiet badass makes no sense in relation to lore because she was raised by a race of hyperadvanced birdmen and infused with their superior DNA when she was just a small child. Having no exclusives has worked so well for the other two, yeah.Does anyone even know why Nintendo strongholds their franchises to their own bubble still? Is it because they're scared of no longer being "unique"?

It was literally just this.I remember people mainly disliking the plot, don't know if it's just culture clash with westerners wanting Samus to be a girlboss and japanese making her demure warrior.
Off the top of my head:
- You control Samus from a 3rd person perspective in a 3D environment by holding the Wii-mote horizontally like an NES controller. Try to imagine how much of a pain it is to move correctly in 3D space with just a D-pad.
- Until you have to shoot missiles, in which case you point the Wiimote at the screen to enter first-person mode, but now you can't move until you hold the Wiimote horizontally again. Which is a pity because the first person mode looks and controls well. You can imagine how this might open you up to take damage when trying to switch between control schemes while trying to blast a boss with missiles.
- Occasionally the game will just stop in the middle of a cutscenes and force you to play I Spy with the Wii-mote so that Samus can identify some interesting detail and point it out to the other characters to continue the story. I distinctly remember one of these being a pile of green puke on top of some already green grass, almost invisible.
- The story is full of a lot of repetitive dialogue that overly-explains what a character is feeling, or summarizes story events that literally just happened five minutes ago. There was also a side plot where one of the Federation Soldiers Samus is with is secretly evil and killing everyone else off. I don't remember if they ever revealed who that was or why he was killing everyone off. I think maybe he wanted to steal the secrets of making Metroids and sell them off to the highest bidder?

Releasing games for their competitors is a "throwing in the towel" move that they would only ever do if they're planning to exit the hardware market altogether. If Nintendo weren't wanting to be the Disney of video games, they'd also develop games for their competitors.
By that (sound) logic I wonder if we'll ever see a new star fox after the disaster that was Zero?Overall, easily the worst Metroid I've played, and I personally think it's the reason Nintendo put the franchise on ice for almost a decade.

Rather conclusively, they have become the apple of videogames. They do as they see fit and if the other two want to copy it, that's on them. Nintendo has benefited handsomely from both sony and indiasoft being run by brainless morons who have no idea what to do with gaming, so they hand those duties over to the worst people imaginable, and all they do is point their finger and bark "just do what nintendo is doing!". The result are sony portal and the xbox ally, both flawed on execution and concept, and complete wastes of funds. If Nintendo weren't wanting to be the Disney of video games, they'd also develop games for their competitors.
You, in theory, make more money this way. You profit off the hardware and the games. Plus anyone who puts games on your platform gives you a 30% cut. Its super lucrative. The problem is the whole industry shifted post COVID. Now all the money is made on Steam. Silksong did like 500K on Switch. It did over 3 million on Steam. Sony realized this which is why they moved their games onto Steam. Nintendo is doing it because they still think they can keep the walled garden going but I don't think its viable anymore.Does anyone even know why Nintendo strongholds their franchises to their own bubble still? Is it because they're scared of no longer being "unique"?
And the space station the game takes place on is called The Bottle Ship. Kindov like a BABY'S BOTTLE do you gaijin understand Japan's deep mommy metaphors yet!? FUCK!
I think its more likely than people think. Investors forced Nintendo to make mobile games, and that was under Iwata, the guy every Youtube essay generators wanks off about. Imagine if Nintendo has the same problem Sony has where nothing sells on their system (seriously, look up PS5 best sellers, its horrifying). They'll pretty much have to do it because they aren't the default console like Sony is. I expect they'll do their own launcher though but at the same time, it's clear Steam is the one making the money. Even with Fortnite bucks, Epic can't get the EGS to take off. I'm sure that will be more of a headache if they do their own launcher and they don't make money while every other Japanese publisher is enjoying their patronage from Lord Gaben. Investors will be pissed if they fuck it upI don't believe it's ever going to happen, but if by a miracle Nintendo starts to release games on PC, they'll create their own AIDS riddled client worse than EPIC and Uplay combined with a DRM that would make denuvo blush. It's going to be a horrendous experience all around.
Only if Mario Maker 3 is a launch title.time for a switch 3?
