Millenial dialogue and open-world being shoehorned in? Yeah, this game is destined for the mediocre bin. It's a shame because the graphics seem pretty nice. But are we really surprised at this point, though? Odyssey's success has pushed Nintendo to go all in on the ultra-safe ultra approachible design system at the cost of almost everything interesting about the games themselves.

The fact that there is very little pushback against this also says a lot about Nintendo fans: they don't expect any better. They've become just as poisoned as the company is, or anyone else who cares has already stopped bothering, It's like watching the Titanic slowly sinking after hitting the iceberg. Sucks.

Honestly, it's a sign of the industry as a whole since Sony and Microsoft's gaming division wearing the Xbox name are too busy lighting themselves on fire while GabN is too busy sitting on his ass while pushing middling hardware next year and trying to keep Steam in the same spot it's been in for years while abandoning the few "live" games in a way that hurts to watch even if you wern't a long time player.

Meanwhile Nintendo does the literal bare minimum that would have been expected from them or even the other "Big 3" a few generations ago and make some exclusive games and suddenly they're breaking records left and right, I imagine a lot of it for both Prime 4 and the industry at large really does come down to both how long the game has been in development hell and the general lowering of standards gamers have had with just how much slop has been spewed out by AAA companies and even the first party companies by some extent to the point some 4/10 indie game suddenly looks like an amazing masterpiece that shits on the big budget games or as the Sonic Racing Crossworlds vs. Mario Kart World shit has shown, people picking the side of slop they like more because one side is more edible than the other.

The state of modern gaming really is just at the "Save Yourself" point for a while, and it's finally reaching the companies that took a while to get to the same point as everyone else.

New Metroid game looks cool and fun. IDK what the doomers want out of it, some grimdark drama about Samus's period or her PTSD? The company that made BoTW is going to suddenly fuck up and suck at open world? Looks like it'll be a fun time chilling on the couch for a few dozen hours.

Exploring an alien world in peace and not being followed by a quirky chungus Whedon-esque redditor character? I've waited 18 years for this.

I was expecting it to be a lot less linear and a lot more violent than just shooting shit with the same weapon. The psychic powers genuinely feels like a cop out.
Maybe ULTRAKILL or Doom would be more your speed. I can't fathom why you would expect gore and sweeping mechanical changes out of a Nintendo sequel.

The trailer has Samus completely alone outside of a few cutscenes with throwaway NPCs saying standard grunt lines. If it's anything like Prime 3 I bet they get mowed down very quickly. I didn't see any evidence it's going to be faggy at all like Other M was.

That new Metroid feels like an Ubisoft clone, honestly. Seriously, I can't shake the feeling that this is genuinely a dud.
IIRC Retro hired a bunch of ex-Ubisoft and ex-Sony devs between the original Prime 4 announcement and now, which unfortunately explains the Ubisoft-esque shit we're seeing now.

So they introduced a Temu version of the Bad Batch from Star Wars to Metroid Prime? Erm, that just happened...
They were already the Temu version of the guys from Battlefield Bad Company, which was a Temu version of the guys from Full Metal Jacket. There's not really a lot of creativity in game writing.

I'll still pick up MP4, it looks good aside from bad writing and acting, I think games have to abandon writing and acting as disciplines to advance, since people who play games don't care, and people who make games don't have the taste or standards or access to talent to make something good in those fields.

Not one aspect of the upcoming Metroid Prime game appeals to me. Fucking mappy on the famicom seems more engaging than this. Tbh I've felt this way about a lot of Nintendo games released on the switch, don't really know how to explain it.
Probably gimmicks over substance:
Botw: More vanilla of the bunch, but the one that started, forced survival mechanics on open world.
Odyssey: Cappy.
Luigi's Mansion 3: Gooigi.
Pikmin 4: Dog.
Metroid Dread: EMMI.
Totk: Nuts and Bolts.
Mario Kart World: Connected open world.
Paper Mario: Combat.
DK Bananza: Environment destruction.
Kirby Star Allies/Fire Emblem Engage: Banking too hard on nostalgia fanservice crossover and forgetting everything else.
Metroid Prime 4: Bike and escort missions.
Pokemon is an entire separate can of worms so I won't even mention.
Forgotten Land and Echoes of Wisdom also had gimmicks of its own but were more accepted by the audience:Mouthful mode is just a temporary gimmick and gameplay still pretty much your vanilla Kirby experience just in 3D and EoW was designed around the Tri Rod rather than being a side addition to the core gameplay like Totk contraptions.

How can one even relay this message/pushback?
-These people are desperate for a new entry of their favorite franchises for years, nobody wants their franchise to be eternally shelved like Chibi-Robo, F-zero or any Nintendo IP that didn't return since the Switch debuted 8 years ago.
-Some these additions even looks cool on paper, Akira bike was well received back on Botw, the first Hyrule Warriors showed that people love nonsensical fanservice crossovers and people were actually interested on stuff like a Pikmin mount or a creepy pursuer on 2D Metroid, is just these things weren't implemented well.
-Games like Doom Eternal and nu-God Of War showed that younger audiences sometimes enjoy drastic changes on the formula, it is just these changes, despite being successful at first, do not have the staying power to keep said audiences.

Other than being a group of soldiers the Bad Company characters and the FMJ guys don't really have anything in common. The cast in FMJ is also a lot more fluid, the only character that appears throughout the entire movie is Joker and he has nothing in common with the main Bad Company soldier guy you play as during the campaign.

Odyssey wasn't "ultra safe" it was just standard 3d world exploration mario game stuff but without the loading between collecting stuff.

Honestly I felt like cappy was a very good addition to Mario's moveset, the problem with Odyssey is that it's far too short and the levels are mostly wide open spaces with very sparse platforming challenges hidden here and there
This too. I've noticed a lot of games the last decade have had an increasing problem of stretching out space but not doing much with that space.

"The new Metroid has this really annoying dorky guy telling you what to do" sounds like an on the nose parody of modern game design.
It's literally just what other M did of jamming in unessecary amounts of character dialogue minus the guy being taken seriously and hopefully not with samus deciding to be retarded and follow commands. Guy reminds me of the annoying helper character from Monster hunter world.

It still pisses me off that Odyssey has the best 3d Mario mechanics and then the game is too short and too easy to ever take full advantage of it. And of course Nintendo is never going to revisit it.

Mario Kart World is also like this, it has very intricate driving mechanics that almost make it a platformer, only to have you drive around in wide open spaces with very sparse platforming challenges, just like Odyssey.
