I think even being optimistic, you're looking at 2030 at least for a switch 2 emulator that can boot up games when they launch with only minimal crashes without a top of the line rig. Likely significantly longer. The switch 1 had legitimately miraculous conditions for emulation, and while jewzu was out in like 7 or 8 months, emulation still wasn't in a decent shape until ryujinx came along and you weren't getting games just working on launch even on ryujinx until like 2021. I remember people coping in the leadup to launch that you'd just be able to drop a switch 2 rom into a switch 1 emulator and have it work like wii roms on dolphin.

He's running outdated Yuzu on desktop mode which has none of the deck optimizations and limits power output, its also an emulator meaning its emulating an entire ARM chipset on x86, versus native hardware.

Switch 2 security needs to be broken before anyone can make an emulator. Kind of hard to emulate things when you don't have any of the software to emulate

Yeah, the general steps needed for an emulator are
>Hack
At the moment, people are just sort of waiting for a miracle exploit to randomly happen from some specific piece of software on some specific firmware. Eventually, they can probably brute force it, but that is gonna take forever.
>Decrypt and figure out the architecture
No one has any idea how long this will take until a hack actually happens.
>Develop homebrew software
Shouldn't take too long once the innards of the system are actually figured out, but again, contingent on that.
>Use homebrew to program a basic emulator
Since a homebrew gives you more control, it's very hard to actually get an emulator working until you have one.
>Optimize
Borderline never ending process, usually takes a couple years before the emulator is ready for feasible use though.

The switch 1 had a day 1 hacking exploit that could never be patched since it was built into the hardware itself, and ran on an architecture that was pretty much a souped-up version of the (already known) 3ds architecture, hence why jewzu was made by the shitra devs and basically just a fork of it at first. Ryujinx only existed because of what a fucking shitshow that yuzu was. Despite all these advantages, switch 1 emulation wasn't in a realistically feasible state for use for years, so who the fuck knows how long switch 2 will take. The v2 model of the switch, the switch lite, and switch oled STILL haven't been hacked, and while the fact that the v1 switch is so easy might redirect a lot of effort that would otherwise go to them, that doesn't bode well for switch 2.

There isn't a pure software hack, but every model of Switch 1 can be hacked by soldering a modchip.

Ars Technica: Switch 2 publisher backs off Game Key Cards after leaking lower-cost cartridge options (archive)
In an update posted to social media earlier today, though, the publisher said that “there is no better timing: two days ago Nintendo announced two new smaller cartridge [storage capacity] sizes for Nintendo Switch 2. This allows us to recalculate production in a way that wasn’t possible before.”
Inin Games accidentally leaked/confirmed earlier leaks of 16 GB and 32 GB game cartridges. They were forced to edit their blog and statements to remove that confirmation.

I'd like to check the Wayback Machine to see if an earlier version of the blog post can be re-archived, but it's down, maybe because of SF power outages. Edit: here it is, wayback (archive).

Kind of bizarre that it took any length of time beyond launch to have more than one capacity.

Chip fabs must’ve fought off the phone and AI contracts to get more SD Express type flash storage production lines open, genuinely faster than I ever expected and a good thing overall if it means we can finally move on from current SD’s shitty burst fire buffering write speeds. Do have to wonder if current key card games will be rereleased as full cards or if it’ll become the mark of the shitty avoid at all costs publishers from now on, though.

I'm pretty much convinced that this is going to be the final traditional console generation and that something akin to the PS Portal where the hardware exists to stream games from the servers is unfortunately the future. The RAM shortage is only going to get worse, people are only going to get poorer, and consoles are only going to sell worse. Maybe Nintendo will hang on a generation longer because they tend to lag behind, but this holiday season shows that families can no longer justify these price points and they're only going to go up from here.

Also I think another thing that's going to cause a big shift is that Roblox is currently bigger than any platform on the market. Grown ass adults play it and not just because they want to groom kids. I think we're going to see a shift towards smaller, bite sized and maliciously monetized experiences.

I think Jewtendo expected the goys to gobble up their slop without throwing a fit. So when people said no to GKCs, I think that really caught them off guard.

Let's put it like this: If the price of an Nintendie console exceeds the majority of an tugboat payment (it's almost there), then you'll see an lot more people actually refusing to buy an Nintendo product through legal means. But the console market was always set to face this bottleneck sooner or later.

I'd honestly expected PC gaming to win out, in general. Well, as long as the lowest end shit can still play the mainstays. And Roblox is basically it's own containment zone for just about anyone who's worthy of an thread on here. Idk, that piece of shit had always felt radioactive for one reason or another. But the fact that it's still popular really says an lot about the people who'll voluntarily play it

I can't see PC gaming winning out, especially with the RAM shortages. If I'd started out today, I don't think I would've been able to build one. As for Roblox, I'd always had the same assumption (I was never into it as a kid, my computer lab games were always Poptropica and Minecraft), but I've learned that apparently it's HUGE with Gen Z women. Don't get me wrong, 99% of Gen Z women are retards (just look at who they vote for), but most of them aren't autistic manchildren.

I meant using stuff that's either second or third rate and just dealing with whatever issues that pops up. Although, that's basically just becomes suicidal after a certain point.

But the entire entertainment industry is actually built on a house of cards, though. Only thing that's different is that each medium has that one specific thing that'll send it straight to bankruptcy

What winning? The console war ended more than a decade ago, it's time to move on. It's just corporations selling slightly different PC, there won't be any real change because it's no longer economically viable to make hardware alterations.

It isn't a real shortage. The companies are refusing to make RAM currently because they are anticipating A.I. to be a bubble burst not worth creating the full stock for. The current A.I. situation seems to be on the path of downscaling because no one has made a cent on it, yet have wasted billions trying to prop it up. I would give it a good year or two for things to even out as companies abandon the A.I. future - and get their obvious bailout.

I'd honestly expected PC gaming to win out, in general.
Valve will win out. Even an absolute normie like my brother is paying attention to the new Steam console and claiming it is the future. A general PC will never win because Americans have no idea how to navigate one, but these PC consoles like the Steam Machine will take a chunk of the market.

Modern Xboxes and PlayStations are literally just PCs with a custom firmware and OS. Switch 1 & 2 are literally just smartphones with custom firmware and OS. The days of consoles having their own unique hardware under the hood died with the Wii U.

Isn't skyrim on switch 2 over 50 GBs? That's what, like 1/5th of the memory correct? Lol. What horrible optimization. Still haven't bought a switch 2.
it includes all the language packs and you can't delete them. It also runs at 30fps 1440p upscaled to 4k with DLSS because the Switch 2 can't run a game from 2011, and there is 250ms input lag
