'No Stupid Questions' (NSQ) Internet & Technology Edition

Why do you need a camera that can record six hours of video, sometimes underneath the water, at a water park?
Because going back to the room to recharge is gay. I'm already mildly pissed I have to bring my phone to theme parks for passes and whatever bullshit. It's one thing to bring Tetris for the line but that's it

hey gramps, all the cool kids use solar panel powerbanks.
I already have one lol, not solar
It was a bike light/ powerbank I got for bicycling, and although I've recovered mostly from getting hit by a car I'm not biking anymore, so now it's a belt loop flashlight/ powerbank (usually for my ancient shit chinesium dashcam)
ironically the light on my belt has gotten a lot of random use, it's what got me more interested in dedicated widgets again instead of just using my phone for everything

Can I put retarded amounts of voltage into my computer's case fans to make my computer into a hovercraft

Does anyone have experience with Acer customer care? My Aspire 5 won't fucking work, it freezes out of the blue as I am just browsing the Internet. As I am retarded I asked Claude and it could be a CPU or GPU issue, it's still under warranty but it's a pain in the ass to send it to Acer support.

If it's a laptop, it's most likely using integrated graphics anyway.

Did you try running Windows Memory Diagnostic? Could also be faulty working memory causing an issue when something gets stored in it.

Personally, I'd also try running some basic diagnostics and maybe doing a fresh Windows 11 install before I started dicking around with Acer. The call centres for the big computer companies are usually staffed by retarted jeets, and I promise the process will be more aggravating than trying to fix it yourself. I'd only try calling them to try and get something replace if I were absolutely sure it was a hardware issue I couldn't fix myself.

I got Claude to walk me through some diagnostics, here are the steps:
  1. eventvwr.msc, found a WUDFrd driver loading failure (probably USB mouse)
  2. HMWMonitor checked temperatures. The chipset/PCH temperatures were normal (28°C and 44°C), but we couldn't measure the CPU and GPU temperatures because the PC kept freezing.
  3. CrystalDiskInfo, checked the hard drive health. Result: 100% good, disk ruled out.
  4. Windows Memory Diagnostic (mdsched.exe), tested the RAM. Result: no problems found, RAM ruled out.
  5. DISM + SFC commands, attempted to repair system files, but the PC froze during the process
So it could be a driver issue? A CPU/GPU issue? Fuck knows, fuck me.

Type in "view reliability history" in the windows button search bar, it summarizes events from event viewer. Look for the red X's, maybe that will give you something.

It seems like it was a graphics driver issue, I updated it and the laptop is working just fine now, hopefully that was it. Thanks guys!

Are there free/"free" speech to text programs that actually work? I tried OpenWhispr, it's jeet garbage that 99%s a processor core when the window's sitting there doing nothing, displays fake progress bars, and fails with unknown unsurfaced errors. I have several dozen aac files that I need to transcribe, preferably to complete sentences without uhms and well nows, to listen and correct afterward.

I use "whisperx" but it's pretty compute intensive, I use GPU.
You can read how it does on the MATI transcription archive at https://endconsentaccidents.net/mati/transmati/

No stupid questions... I want to switch to Linux but I have windows games and programs that may not run on it. Ive heard that Proton is a compatibility layer Valve put out that can make windows programs run in Linux without having to use WINE

How exactly do I use Proton for tings other than steam games? All ive ever seen is it being a setting in steam for allowing the games to run

This is my old laptop been running as my NAS, and I was wondering if I could use a 5TB HDD via USB 3.0 here, my SSH of it

you could try adding a non-steam game in your library and go to propertys to pick a proton version. i am not sure if this will work however since on cracked games it requires a loicense. other than that you can use WINE itself or Lutris.
