Old keys on laptops/prebuilt machines/office machines will work, you can buy a junker laptop for almost nothing off ebay just for the key (as a bonus you'll have a backup computer or a fun project to mess around with). I don't know how far back you can go though, I've tested it with an old windows 7 machine and the key activated/upgrade to windows 10. I'm not sure an XP key will work, probably not.
@wtfNeedSignUp Hell, if you look around on Ebay enough, I'm sure you can find someone who's posted a picture of the bottom of a laptop showing the license key sticker.

Update: I can edit them now, so for anyone else new who has this question, it seems that account details become editable after a week has passed since the creation of an account.
I've had this account for months now and I still can't edit my account details. I have no idea what the restriction is.

I've had a similar problem as well. I was able to edit any and all of my details during a window of at least a couple of days after my first post, but after that the lock returned and is still applied for some reason.

Damn. I've checked every so often to see if I could edit or see general chat, but there's never even been a window when I've been able to. I haven't posted about it until now bc I figured it would be extremely faggy to complain about being a restricted newfag. But it's been quite a while, I don't think I've been retarded enough to be restricted this long outside of a bug, and I've seen newish users have custom titles. Is a very long restriction period for new users now standard practice?

TL;DR I am whining about it, reeeee, but also, if it's not a bug then it is what it is I guess

I have been disconnected from culture these past few months. What's with the proliferation of avatars of someone in a little bear suit / hoodie with stubby arms? Example: @Scarlett Johansson .

Not strictly a tech question but this is where the No Dumb Questions thread lives.

That's a "wiggler," and it's a riff on an image that Keffals shows on his streams. The original Keffals one looks like this. I think wigglers existed before Keffals adopted them but I'm not sure.

If you want to go really dirty, check out your local library or similar. This might have changed now but I used to be surprised by license sticker being left out in the open.

  1. Are we on the dark web now?
  2. I have an old 2.5" drive from my dead Dell laptop lying around in an external case. I wanted to get some music off it but Windows didn't want to recognize the USB case, instead it gave me the option to initialize the drive - which I did - and to format it - which I didn't do. Is there any way for me to get the roughly 500 gigs of raw data off it or did I fuck it up? I rarely plugged it in since the drive didn't have that much service time left in it according to HDsentinel.

Any tips on accessing the farms on Android? Tor tabs on Brave desktop seem to work OK but as far as I know its not implemented in the mobile version and I do most of my browsing during the day between sending and receiving angry work emails.

I'm personally using the Orbot app in VPN mode and it allows me to route all my browser traffic through tor, meaning I can access onion links like normal site links. Of course by not using the tor browser itself you are giving up a lot of anonymity and privacy, since the point of the tor network is for everyone to use the same browser and same settings so everyone's fingerprints are identical. In this case however I'm not concerned about that, plus I've already visited kiwifarms on the clearnet so the anonymity for this account is gone by now. If your only goal is just to access the farms try orbot.

On a side note, I haven't tried yet but does anyone know if its possible to route a certain Firefox container tab through tor while keeping other tabs clearnet? Just for ease of use

What would be the best computer parts that I should get if I wanted to build a PC that runs linux as the main system and Windows 10 in a VM (for gayming)?

I'd say just do Linux for gaming. It has come a long way and if you use steam for most of your gaming it'll probably just work out of the box because of proton. Setting up a VM with GPU pass through might not be worth it, if you can't get Linux working normally maybe you should dual boot if you need windows that badly. More games do work than don't work on Linux, unless you play multiplayer games with intrusive anticheats

I assume the drive doesn't show up in explorer? Shit, I used to do this all the time and it's a two minute operation, it sounds like the file table got fucked but that can be easily restored.

I'd suggest cloning it to a file using Macrium Reflect before messing with it, it won't take that long and now you have infinite chances to try and solve the problem.

Google is completely fucked, searching for the problem all I get is "Easeus", "rescuedigitalmedia", "ubackup", "yodot", "stellarinfo" and so on, sites that suggest that using their sketchy software is the solution. But it really sounds like the partition table is corrupt, so that's a lead, if that's the problem it can 100% be fixed with free tools that already ship with windows.
Take a look at (Microsoft) diskpart or this thing that is free and open source: https://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/TestDisk
There's a guide for it: https://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/TestDisk_Step_By_Step

The idea behind the Windows VM is that I would use it for the EGS and any multiplayer game that requires a rootkit type of anti-cheat system (like the recent CoD and future EA games).

Thank you for the suggestions! Last time I had to deal with disappearing HDDs was under W98/ME a good couple years back, guess I should consider myself lucky. Had to set the drives' parameters manually in the BIOS because the damn thing wouldn't recognize them no matter what. Fun times.

I'm running Macrium right now, it's estimated to take 3 hours. I'm going to update the post once I'm done with TestDisc.

Hope it works! Macrium is so useful and so free.

I remember problems like these were more common when there was a 0.001% chance that pulling out the USB cable at the exact wrong time could be very bad (up to Win8 I think?) so I fixed a lot of disks at that point, but it was a while ago so I don't remember what the solution was other than it was quick and easy 99% of the time.

Is there an easy way to archive twatter (nitter) threads locally, something like a chromium addon?

This was last recommended more than a year ago, wanted to suggest it for newer members:

YouTube client alternative, presently only for Android:

newpipe.net

Advantages over native YT client:

1. Video downloads as MP4 possible.

2. No Google account needed to use.

3. Can access and download age- restricted videos freely.

4. Apparently no ads (I use adguard dns so wouldn't know)

5. Open-source

6. If you use the "trending" tab you can apparently set the location to any country.

7. All the data used to modify your feed seems to be kept client-side and can be cleared at any time.

8. Better interface (IMO).

It's worth checking out. If you don't like it you can always change back.
