Bond is back. The first trailer for NO TIME TO DIE arrives this Wednesday.

The movie has had very bad anti-hype due to the production issues, a director who originally wanted to kill Bond off, and inserting woke politics into the story (going as far as to ban the term "Bond Girl" from sets), and apparently someone sneaking a camera into some toilets to get some panty shots.

There is a thread about Bond already but felt this movie deserved one at least to keep things more tidy and focused.

That would be depressing. Bond is one of the longest-standing pillars in film. Seeing it ended indefinitely due to Jew politicking (an even longer-standing pillar of film) would convince me (further) that this culture of ours is doomed.

Bond's certainly up for a refresh or a nap. I remember my first thought after seeing Casino Royale was "that was great, please don't make another one" because of how down hill Brosnan's run went after Goldeneye. 3 or 4 movies later and it looks like Craig's run has followed the same basic path: starting out strong and ending weak. Blowing your load too early, so to speak.

As far as I'm concerned this franchise died it's last death when they mangled Spectre. Fighting the Fleming estate for the rights to it for aeons and spending a decade worth of Craig films to lead up to it, only to shit out an ugly boring turd. It made me want a refund for all of the time I spent watching the films that came before it.

Ultimately these modern producers can bitch and moan all they like about needing to update or subvert the Bond formula and they can try their best to hamfist together a strok wahmen for the next generation, but none of that will ever change the fact that On Her Majesty's Secret Service did everything they aspire to do infinitely better half a century ago and it never once needed to grovel for validation like this to do it. That fact no doubt gnaws away at them every time they go to work on their projects and their contempt for their material seeps into all the drivel they spew out. That's why nothing they make will have even a fraction of the relevance even the most forgotten Bond film has.

I suspect it's less a genuine concession to woke culture and more a case of producers trying to bait controversy for free marketing. There's been a few of these movies now where the pre-release hype makes it out to be some woke abomination and initial public reactions trigger the usual litany of "these disgusting manbabies are whining about progress in cinema, go watch our slop to stick it to 'em!" op-eds among the paid advertisers film media, but the end product ends up being substantially less progressive than advertised to avoid actually offending people.

This both gets people who aren't marinating in culture war drama 24/7 to wonder what all the fuss was about in an otherwise mediocre movie, makes the "manbabies" look like they overreacted, and the shills quietly retreat and move on to avoid being embarrassed that the movie didn't actually push their cultish ideology to the degree they claimed.

Considering No Time to Die is effectively Dead On Arrival after Spectre disappointed most people, no one involved seems all that enthused about making another Bond movie, and the franchise in general hasn't been interesting in over a decade, this kind of desperate marketing strategy seems in line with typical Hollywood bullshit these days.

It probably won't be complete woke garbage, but it's definitely not going to be good either. Craig seemed like a decent Bond, but Casino Royale was the only movie he got that was really good; although I admittedly thought that Spectre was decent.

I'm guessing they wouldn't have gone anywhere near "woke" if the series were still doing gangbusters at the box office. I think the "let's just make them all women/black/whatever" plan is one of desperation as the old IPs no longer draw people in.

Nah. Elba is an awesome actor, but making Bond inexplicably black would not be much better. I mean okay, it would be better than this shit... but still pretty lame and PC.

FAKE EDIT: How's this for a conspiracy theory? This film was wokeified due to Craig's irresistible influence, and the studio, filled with moronic shitlibs, thought "maybe this is what Bond needs? YAAASSSS QUEEN SLAY!" But they also realized that if the film failed it would prime them to get Bond BLACKED, a plan they definitely have already considered (the social media "put Elba in as Bond" thing surely did not go unnoticed by them, assuming it wasn't astriturfed to begin with)... and to have all the fans be happy about it instead of annoyed by what would have been seen as PC bullshit otherwise!

If the next Bond film (please die, Bond franchise) stars Elba as a race-flipped Bond, I think that theory will sound a lot less crazy...

Things started taking a turn for the worse with The World Is Not Enough, but like Honka said, TND is a pretty alright film in the context of the current state of the world. Brosnan's acting as Bond was great, but the scripts he was working with were anything but after the second film. Die Another Day was the culmination of the producers' efforts to widen the potential audience by making it more action-focused (i.e the infamous surfing scene).

I'm kinda disappointed they decided to retcon what happened in SkyFall/Spectre with the '00' program being cancelled all for the sake of being 'woke' by giving the '007' codename to a character made just for the film. We already had an alright female 'counterpart' to Bond in Moneypenny.

They really need to stop using 'Die' in the titles of Bond films, though. We already have Die Another Day, Tomorrow Never Dies, Live and Let Die, and now there's No Time to Die. It doesn't help distinguish the film from previous ones with similar titles, for better or for worse.
