Happy Star Wars Day to all who celebrate! If you're a fan of the original trilogy, the prequels, or even some of the spinoff shows like Andor or The Clone Wars, you've got plenty to celebrate. But one group that apparently isn't celebrating this May 4? Sequel trilogy enjoyers, because according to a new report, they don't really exist.

A new report from Nielsen and published by Variety reveals that nobody is watching the most recent trio of core Star Wars films — at least not on Disney Plus. The report reveals two interesting data points: the most-watched Star Wars properties on May 4, 2025 and the most-streamed Star Wars title for each generation of fans. In both cases, the Disney-era movies are nowhere to be seen.

The most-watched property last year was Andor (likely because it was just wrapping up its final episodes at the time), followed by a mix of original and prequel trilogy films, with some other shows and even Rogue One mixed in.

Meanwhile, along generational lines we see some surprising trends: Gen Alpha and the Baby Boomers share a love of The Mandalorian, while Gen Z loves animated The Clones Wars, and Millennials and Gen X both indulge in the grounded, political thrills of Andor. Again, no love for The Force Awakens, The Last Jedi, or The Rise of Skywalker.

This isn't exactly a surprise. While the Disney-era films performed well in theaters, The Last Jedi divided fans, while everyone hated The Rise of Skywalker. The latter left such a bad taste in the fandom's collective mouth that it may have retroactively ruined even the solidly enjoyable The Force Awakens.

This might not seem like the biggest problem facing Star Wars. After all, the sequels still crushed at the box office and clearly there's plenty of appetite for the franchise overall. However, the data does seem to confirm a sneaking suspicion we've held for a while now: the sequel trilogy failed to set up the franchise for future success. While the movies leaned heavily on nostalgia and brought back all of the original cast, they also introduced a new generation of heroes who could presumably carry the story forward. But in the seven years since The Rise of Skywalker, that's failed to happen. Rey's spinoff movie is in development hell, Kylo Ren's solo adventure was killed by Disney executives, and both John Boyega and Oscar Isaac seemingly want nothing to do with Star Wars.

The sequel trilogy was supposed to push Star Wars forward. Instead, it turned out to be a dead end. Thankfully, Disney still has Baby Yoda, which is hopefully going to convince the Boomers and their Gen A grandkids to return to theaters when The Mandalorian and Grogu arrives in theaters later this month. But after that? The future of Star Wars has never seemed more precarious.

The first sequel was at least entertaining. The second just pissed me off… the whole casino planet part just made the movie drag and contributed absolutely fuck-all to the plot, and the character assassination of Luke was just the top of the shit sundae.

I have never watched the third sequel.
Makig a third of the movie a high speed chase were neither ship appears to move was another interesting choice.

Spaceballs literally did it better.

I can’t wait for the Spaceballs sequel to be an hour and a half of roasting Disney Star Wars while somehow being more entertaining.

Just watch the 4K77 project, and the two follow-up projects, and forget about all the rest of the total arse fucking shite.

None of mine are even remotely interested. Which is fine as I think it’s lame and dad is indifferent. We’re a LOTR trilogy house
Like lotr isn't total fucking garbage.

Star Wars was an allegory for the Vietnam War, with the US being le evil bad guys, and the rebels being le wholesome good guys.
Frankly, I root for the Empire, since they appear to be a (brutal but) proper meritocracy, whereas the "good guys" are ruled by a bunch of equally-unelected-but-absurdly-young female royals, and in thrall to a bunch of fanatic monks practicing a crazy religion.

Star Wars has always been shiny mediocrity, and absent Death Vader's badassery and a young Harrison Ford's roguish charm, there ain't much there.
You know that George Lucas did not direct the Empire Strikes Back... Which became the best of the entire series.

I'll say this again I think that George Lucas is a certified narcissistic asshole. His arrogance knows no bounds.
I fully believe that he DID SOMETHING TO HER, because of his "holier than thou" attitude.
Because once she got a hold of Luca's Legacy she utterly destroyed it.

This is just more than DEI woke Ideology. This is something I've seen several times in business.

Fucking revenge on a nuclear level.

This smooth brain fucking retard thought he could outsmart "The Mouse" with billions of dollars in Royalty checks when he sold his legacy to Disney. "The Mouse" curb stomped his lily white ass on that. And Kennedy made sure about dealing with the Patriarchy with those horrible movies.

It was said in the background that if he did not like you he could shut your business now in Marin County as well as destroy your career in the entertainment industry. And I fully believe it.

And you are right. Lucas work is overall a Meh. A New Hope was at the right place at the right time. Cowboys in space. Empire Strikes Back was so good that Lucas's ego had to make Return of the Jedi and his fucking EWOKS for toy sells. Fuck the story... buy the furry you faggots. And the rest of his works went down hill from there.

What made StarWars a cultural icon until 2010 was James Earl Jones and his voice of Darth Vader.
Bad Ass Character.

So bad the current shit is that they have to data mine old IP's just to keep the legacy line afloat, because Disney Killed the Brand with shit like The Acolyte.

So in ending yea. Most of the story lines Smooth Brain Lucas wrote was meh. special effects and and good acting overall made things better.

Then Disney does what it does best, Fuck things up.

I agree that Kennedy was getting feminist revenge, but it wasn’t personal. Feminists hate all straight white men in general.

Look at Last Jedi — you have menstruating spaceships, women clapping back at mansplainers, and the classic male hero looking ridiculous drinking purple milk (that comes from a female alien).
