Actually they/them might be on to something. I am much less attracted to someone the second I learn they have vanity pronouns.

Society has decided what nonbinary means, now she must change so nobody sees what she is again. And of course she's white woman lite, a set of pronouns (what mystikal revelations have you had, oh they/them one?), and assimilated into an online culture. An uphill battle to not be like others. She must be special, no one listens to her otherwise, she must be different, that's why she's always been shat on.

For women like her, it's scary to be catagorized because it removes their identity and makes them some type of "silly girl" rather than a human worthy of importance (yes misogyny is in there).

Funnily enough I recall seeing a Facebook comment on an article about some they/them celebrity, think it was Bella Ramsay, from a woman in her 70s who'd been married with kids, only to come out as lesbian later in life, deciding even later that she's in fact "non binary" and is glad that there's finally a term to describe what she'd been feeling since childhood. I wish I'd screenshotted the comment - oldest NB identified person I've ever come across, and she'd even changed her name to some typical NB name like Jasper or Ash.

A former mutual used to follow this sixtysomething that ID'd as NB (and was raising her grandkids while posting the typical Tumblr slacktivism). A seventysomething woman "coming out" as enby isn't too farfetched all things considering.

I've seen these old ladies claim that they are proof that NBs/trans people come in all ages. Since they all act exactly like the twentysomething college students claiming to be NB, it just proves to me that escapism and attention whoring know no age limit. The entire r/translater subreddit is similar. Loaded with men that decided the best way to deal with their mid or late life crises was to wear miniskirts and ratty Party City wigs. Trooning out is becoming the new getting a new car or motorcycle.

I wish I could beat the shit out of these women and girls' self doubting voices that make them say being enby makes them hot but they cant be hot girls. Once I was in a meeting where for some reason we had to do our pronouns even though we were all women, except for one woman in mid to late in her 60s, who was she/her but might have been interested in exploring nb identity when she was younger if it had been around then, but now she was too old. And we all just kind of nodded and got on with the fucking meeting.

For much of the same reason that women attempt suicide with less lethal or messy methods like drug overdose while men go straight to eating a bullet. As long as a woman only dyes her hair rainbow colors and goes by they/them, she can get the attention and social brownie points of being a “poor oppressed queer” with minimal effort.

Meanwhile, the pornsick man is so occupied with his fantasies of having a vagina that he goes straight into getting his crotch diced first chance he gets. Being an enby is more “safe,” less final in comparison. Totally reversible, provided she doesn’t use hormones or surgeries to try to look like a gender confusion (e.g. Nady “Milo” Stewart or the female salmacians in the SRS Horrors thread).

Makes me want to know how the character is referred to in Japan, since while the concept of NB has been introduced there as "X-gender" it's only really a thing amongst the radical activist types who take inspiration from the west, androgyny has been a thing in Japanese culture forever but they never felt the need to make up a new label for it until the current year western influences started creeping their way in, an effeminate man is still a man, masculine woman is still a woman. Also kinda ironic considering Nintendo localisations in the past often turned effeminate male characters into females (Gracie and Saharah from Animal Crossing) and anything that could be interpreted as sexual was removed.

In Japan, as far as I know and read, Dedf1sh/Acht is female, fans also regard her as a woman, shes just a tomboy/GNC type. She uses Boku, as a personal pronoun, which is common for these types of girls. I don't recall reading anything from JP Splatoon side about Acht being x-gender or anything of the sort.
Of course, Tomboys and the like are not allowed in the west anymore, so they decided to switch Acht to 'they/them'. NOA were calling Acht 'she' prior, when she was first introduced in Octo Expansion, too. I'll take my puzzle pieces for knowing all of this.

Though, to me, it's kind of funny the undead/shell-of-its-former-self character is now referred to as Non-Binary. Kind of ironic, don't you think?

Its so weird how non binary isn't seen as a "I want to feel special" fad.This one lesbian I've seen online claims to be non binary, and she's obessed with yuri/lesbian romance.She even talks about wanting a girlfriend one day.Nothing about this girl screams that she's dysphoric or trans, but because she claims to be NB she can't possibly be lying.
