Every time I see the name of something from over there it just resembles extremely goofy gibberish

also why is everybody in south korea named Park. it's like their version of "Singh"/"Preet", or kind of how everyone in Mexico has one or more of the same 5 last names. Does "Park" mean something in korean or do they really like cultivated outdoor areas for the purposes of relaxation and recreation. It's just weird because all their other names are like "Gooblyeobpbang" and "Yeongmungbbap" and then you just have "Park".

While in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea they get the most amazing music ever made when our Supreme Leader, Kim Jong Un, personally launches the most advanced rocket ever made! Could be worse, could be something ludicrous like Nguyen.

I think what happened with these surnames is they date back a really long time and some of them were more prominent than others and eventually won out through sheer numbers over time. Surnames in European languages are a lot more recent and have nowhere near the same meaning as they do in these cultures. I can't even trace my ancestors past my great-grandparents because Galicia was so frigging poor and illiterate we didn't have one.

Nobody gives a shit about last names in the US unless they're something really dumb sounding, like Nokes or Hiscock. I'd be careful around women with the hyphenated ones though...
 
Nguyen! I forgot all about Nguyen. The surname given to every single Vietnamese who ever lived. spelled like it's pronounced "Nagooyin", actually pronounced "win". incredibly strange and insect-like.

A lot of Korean names are some kind of natural feature, tree, or color. "Pak" or "Park" means "Hackberry tree". The most popular family name "Yi" or "Ri", depending on how you transliterate it, means "Plumb tree".
