So I'm wondering if I'm the only one who sometimes gets nostalgic for when certain lolcows were "good" (or at least hadn't revealed their cow-ness).

For me, it's mostly AVGN and the Channel Awesome people. I used to like some back in the day (Linkara, Doug, Spoony) and still sometimes watch their older content for fun and for a bit of a trip back in time.

Wondering if anyone else has someone like that, or if you drop someone like a hot potato the minute they turn out to be douches?

Watching old Chris Chan stuff makes me really nostalgic. It's not just that I used to watch Chris, but also all the background stuff.

Reminds me of playing ps3 after getting home from school. I wish there was another one like him. But for that we'd need the surrounding world to be like the one he was in at the time too.

Everythings drenched in pessimism now.

I wasn't around to see this myself, but EvaXephon when he first tried to ruin streaming for everyone. It seems that these were much simpler and more innocent times, when some guy like you and me could stream himself playing some game, while bunch of other people would just watch and fool around. There were 0 chances to make a fortune out of it, so it was all about having fun and interacting with other people. But if that person acted like a complete faggot, everyone could troll the hell out of them and get their kicks after all. Now it's all about numbers, sponsorships, simps and walking on egg shells known as Twitch's TOS.

This one was never good, but who was that faggot who's most known for the "LEAVE BRITNEY ALONE!" video of him crying while passionately defending Britney Spears' career and life decisions? I thought it was hilarious at the time, and didn't realize it was foreshadowing the horrors of the clown world we presently live in.

Spoony's older videos were really good and I'll go back and watch them now and then. His Ultima retrospectives in particular were fun to watch. Back in the good old days before getting kicked from channel awesome, the wrestling vids, counter monkey vids, failed streaming, and the eternal prison that is whining about shit on Twitter.

One memory I have about Spoony... there was a gaming forum I was part of at the time that had an active AVGN thread.

AVGN had brought out a review everyone hated (I think it was Beetlejuice) and this was the first time I heard talks of AVGN not being as good as he used to be... someone actually used Spoony's review of the C64 Big Trouble in Little China game as an example of something that felt more like a classic AVGN episode than anything AVGN was doing.

Sadly, that wound up being one of the last pure reviews Spoony ever produced. What an ironic note to end on.

Jim Sterling.

Trashing on lootboxes constantly is entertainment, if a low hanging fruit. It got old.

Old Chris Chan for sure. Also the proto lolcow David Gonterman was a great freak of the old web

Chris Crocker. Too many cows are practically litmus tests for society, it's pretty odd.

IIRC, didn't it later come out that Chris Crocker only did that whole "LEAVE BRITNEY ALONE!" video as a joke/publicity stunt? I could be wrong on that, but I remember hearing something along those lines back in the day.

I think that was one of the biggest differences between a lot of the internet cringe back then compared to what we have now. A lot of the stuff back then was more obviously tongue-in-cheek.

"Viral video" was both more of a novelty and also more common, so more people would try to act over-the-top and go out of their way to unironically pretend to be retarded just to get some e-fame.

Tbh, I think part of why Chris-Chan himself was such a big deal in the earliest days of the "Classic" era is because he was in fact the real deal and not someone doing a character. IIRC, didn't some of the people on SA and 4chan back in 2007 initially think Chris was just some kind of ruse done for laughs?

Yeah, I'm pretty sure you're right about it being an act. Or at the very least, that he later claimed it was performance.

Some folks thought chris chan was a fake, but when the Lucas/Mimms interview came out, and the shecameforcwc.jpg before it that pretty much confirmed he was legit. I think that would have been around late 2007 or mid 2008 if I remember correctly.

There was this one guy who made a red sanic recolor and his art skill may have needed work.

I think he was called "chasethehedgehog", and he was active in the '00s.

One time he made this thing in anim8or (free 3DCG software) of a grey sphere stuck on the corner of a grey cube, uploaded it to deviantART and called it "future city", and one guy sarcastically commented that what's in the sphere part was awesome beyond comprehension.

One of the greatest lolcows of all time is Christopher Paul Whitney, also known as Fatman. The man mukbanged before mukbangs were a thing, the progenitor deathfat and absolutely batshit insane. Had that lovable quality too so you kind of grew to like him in a Cobes sort of way. One of a kind. AUGH YEAH

Here, this is a very appropriate piece of ancient Fatman media.

Evilaj's metal gear solid TIHYDP's were my first introduction to DSP and the lolcowverse as a whole

They're classic internet videos to me. Sometimes when I'm having a bad day I'll pop one into the youtube searchbar and indulge in the laughs all over again. Phil isn't nearly as funny anymore. He's just sad and pathetic.

I've got some bad news for you.

This bitch was the first old Internet lolcow that came to mind. I think she was my first Internet lolcow but I listened to Opie and Anthony a lot, that was my introduction to Chris Chan. O and A would have deranged mental ill people in the studio and would fuck with them. Some classics are Lady Di and Marion, Bobo, Tippy Tom, the prehistoric hooker Sandy Kane, Stalker Patti, and Big A. All worth looking into today because they were sort of the proto-cows.

I’m always nostalgic over Channel Awesome stuff from the early 2010’s—back when I thought all the producers were friends and liked each other.
I also feel nostalgic for tumblr lolcows. Talk about a site that used to define my life half a decade ago damn.
