Not-E3 2020 Thread

And speaking of backwards compatibility, the PS3 was marketed to have it, but proper hardware-based BC was only in the early models, since the hardware compatibility was dropped in later revisions. They started having software-based BC, but it was a shitshow and a lot of games bugged out hard, and eventually they just dropped it from all future consoles. Which is pretty fucked considering hacked PS3s can run PS2 games through software BC just fine, even Slims that never had BC to begin with, and IIRC I think Europe didn't even get hardware backwards compatibility at all.

So, you know, TEENY TINY grains of salt for Sony until we get some serious figures.

Only thing I had in mind is what others have brought up, the white plastic is gonna dirty up and scuff up like a bitch, and ventilation might be an issue, the last two generations of consoles have had these fucking venting issues.
I don't see air flow being an issue because the entire middle of the console is one big huge ass fan. That shit is going to be blowing dust out the sides.

And my wii is still white and looks fine, plastic used to yellow dude to fire retardant used in it. Modern white plastics are made differently now.

Grand Theft Auto 5, some future there Sony.
GTA V or Online enhanced us hopefully a stop before VI and Red Dead Online is brought up to scratch with bug free missions. Just that for starters, but a GTA Online set of features, would be nice too.

The earlier models also has hardware issues too. More prone to dying. Not as much as Xbox 360, but enough for it to be a concern.

That design screams overheating issues. Not to mention it looks like a fucking router, has what looks to be the texture of stucco on top of being white, because nothing is easier to clean off than fucking white stucco. Not to even mention the only game they showed that looked even mildly impressive was Assassins Creed: Blood Dragon: Ugly Bitch Edition 2 and Demons Souls which ironically looked like they sucked all of the soul out of it.

Bet that price tag goes up if you want a bigger SSD, honestly at this point what is that, like 10 games?

Edit: How big are next-gen games going to be, who wants to bet 1tb holds like 2-3 games.
When Mark Cerny had that press confrence a few months ago, the mentioned the ps5 was going to have an onboard ssd with 825gb of storage. And if you wanted, you could buy off the shelf NVMe drives for extra storage. No USB storage, unless they just annouced that.

Like, we already know if an Xbox One can play it, the Xbox Series X can play it. So we know you can play Morrowind and Fallout New Vegas on XSX, but not like, Jet Set Radio Future or Eternal Sonata. Backwards compatibility on PS5 is still up in the air, isn't it?
MS has said they want to do more BC with the Xbone and XSX. It was stopped since the BC team was working on getting BC running on XSX. I bet Day 1 will bring more 360 titles and a few OG Xbox games. Though most of the popular Xbox 360 titles can run in BC. I agree JSRF and Eternal Sonata need to be added to BC. Also Virtua Fighter 5. Last Round is good but I want my Quest mode Goddamnit.

Air flow is gonna be an issue when I spraypaint the fuck out of mine and then get mad over my futile efforts to make the system not look like it was designed by a dangerhair at 4am who just sketched out his router and called it a day

can anyone answer this question for me, when sony or xbox are coming out with a new console, how long do the companies know before the public? like would any of the games coming out for the ps5/xbox4 actually take advantage of the increase in power?

even the multiplatform ones? would they be able to optimize for the new consoles well?

I'm happy i decided to go PC instead of console for the 8th gen, and now it seems like i'll be doing it for the 9th as well, which is fucking crazy because my gpu is 4+ years old, it should be outdated as shit, the same way 90s processors were outdated almost as soon as you took them home

They start several years in advance with select developers, at that time there is no real hardware so they might give out the specs they are shooting for which might change down the line. They start planning/thinking based on that, eventually prototype hardware arrives in some form along with the SDK for the system, but all of that will change. A couple of years before the PS3 was shown some of the more important studios were briefed on the hardware, the hardware was CELL and it didn't exist yet, but they got expected performance numbers and information of how it would function. "Wow, how will we even use this much power?" one designer said, then with real hardware things changed. A lot of things changed. Sony was a bit optimistic.

In the past developers have to be cautious up until the last minute because things were never set in stone. I think it was the Tekken Tag Tournament or Ridge Racer 5 team at Namco that didn't see what their game looked like up until three months before release because the Graphics Synthesizer wasn't part of the PS2 devkit yet. Total insanity.

The PS5/Xbox is different now, it's not something completely new and unique where they have to throw out everything they know and learn something completely new.

The problem is little Jimmy and Mr. College Undergrad probably aren’t going to take care of a console very good, down the line the white plastic is gonna shit up the aesthetic of the console. Especially on the second hand market which is pretty much the life of next-gen after a year or two. A black console can hide much more cosmetic issues.

Xbox One tried that. It did not work out for them in 2013. Sony had no tangible new features with the PS5. Or compelling games.
Xbox One still has that issue. If you buy your games digitally through the Marketplace, you have to be online to launch them. If you're not connected to Xbox live, the games won't launch. At least with Disc games, you can put the disc in to verify you own it.

I had that happen to me once when Xbox Live was down. I couldn't sign in and couldn't play my downloaded games.

PS1 BC worked on all PS3s btw. Its pretty good. And IIRC Europe got the partial hardware emulated ps2 support. Not the full emotion engine chipset.

Xbox 360 didn't have that issue, right?
I can't remember. Probably, but MS didn't add playing disc games off the HDD until later.

That's still a very white console, especially compared to those rubber wiimote condoms.

My point just being the plastics going to wear cosmetically more than the new Xbox.

Edit: Which a pointless thing to say, but hey, we’re all arguing about a console that isn’t even released yet.

Exactly. That's why I hate white electronics. DS Lite demo units in stores turned brownish around the controls, it was fucking disgusting and looked like they had poop smeared on them.
Xbox 360 didn't have that issue, right?
Xbox 360 could let you play your downloadables offline. You set your gamertag to have a "home" console, and it could only have one, but whatever games you bought on that account could be played offline there. You could bounce it to another console once every 6 months. You'd only need to be logged in and online to play your games on a different console than your home one.

Then just buy a special edition and it will be a different color.

It's not like they're not going to get people to buy multiples.

I wanted that fucking clear blue PS4 but they made like only 5,000 of them world wide.
