Not-E3 2024 Thread - A place to discuss the whole week's worth of video game broadcasts and announcement

Bots and shills run rampant, more than they ever have, across the message boards, YT, tiktok etc. These games must be given great coverage, with downvotes and negative criticism either removed entirely or downplayed as to not give the game away. Woke, whether accidental or manufactured, has given the industry the perfect out. "This game is only unpopular because racists and homophobes don't like it. You're not a racist, homophobe, are you?"
One thing is certain, pretty much every site, almost as if they coordinate, has removed your ability to dissent (dislike button). The plebs are being trained to simply accept feces, fitting for the Turd World dystopia they are making for us to languish in. Whether art or games or jewtube - the goyim cannot dislike the slop being shoved in their faces, at least that's the idea. Thank god for extensions like return youtube dislike.

It's not just that. There's also an effort to protect their mouthpieces. Twitter is removing public likes. Why? The users didn't demand it. It looks like it's because so many celebrities, journos, and activists keep getting caught being hypocrites. eg. Journos writing hit pieces about sexy game characters while having their likes filled with thot and porn accounts.

This is something I keep hearing over and over again but I don't see it. Maybe I just follow different indie games than others, but I doubt it.
Yeah it was maybe a bit of an exaggeration on my end lol. I actually like roguelikes occasionally (as you can see from my pfp) but I think my point was more that a lot of the really big games in the indie scene tend to be almost as homogeneous as the AAA scene, so it's a bit worrisome that instead of changing for the better, it'll basically be one soulless group switching to another.

I have played plenty of good indie games though, so it's just my doomerism speaking and it probably wouldn't be as bad as I thought.

If there's any that stick out in your mind, let me know! I don't wanna sound like an annoying sperg and love trying out new shit.

Zero games at all, or just zero at E3?

Game wise, I actually think this year isn't too shabby! Though I think it may be because I'm an RPG slop man. I just started SMT V Vengeance today and absolutely loving it. Visions of Mana looks great and I'm pumped for Metaphor Re:Fantazio. Earlier this year I played Granblue Fantasy Relink and thought it was a fun time.

Princess Peach Showtime is also good for a non RPG game

On the western end Warhammer Rogue Trader looks good, but I'm not very familiar with Warhammer as a setting so I dunno how it is.

I feel like with Indie games I tend to forget they exist until they come out and then I grab em and love em, so I couldn't name any I'm specifically excited for this year. Next year I'm absolutely pumped for Mewgenics by Edmund McMillen, though.

New Doom also looks hype! But I'm admittedly a big fan of RPGs so it's the stuff that captures my interest, I try other stuff more based on friend reccomendations or personal interest.

Has there been a single title worth caring about announced during all this? I found zero over the last few years and somehow I'm not optimistic about this year either.
I think Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, the French "J"RPG from the Xbox presentation, had the best showing out of everything. Looks pretty, fun, and intriguing.
Same VA as the main character from Final Fantasy XVI.

I suspect this is the main battle/boss theme:

I think it looks great but I was linked to a three year old article from the game's creator, from when in was in very early development. It sounds like it will probably be a FFXIII-style "corridor RPG". Not sure if thats a deal breaker for you or not.

Lollipop Chainsaw RePop for me, which is depressing given that it is a barely changed 12 year old game. Getting on new hardware is a plus though.

Beyond that, I guess Astro Bot looked good.

Oh, I already suspected as much from just the trailer alone. The story appears to entail the party heading towards a distant destination, one that seems to have a point of being regularly visible above the scenery, and I think it's pretty save to assume that the game ends when they get there. In the interim, the party travels through twisted, alien landscapes filled with nothing but otherworldly, likely-silent enemies. It doesn't look like the party will be meeting anyone else along the way, so they'll only have each other to interact with. Maybe there will be some flashbacks or vision quests. Wouldn't be too surprised if the game clocks in at about 20-30 hours.

Honestly, I think FFXIII's linear structure was something that a lot of people too issue with mainly because the game did a poor job of disguising it (like the very first zone being locked on a suspended highway), and it was compounded by all of the other problems the game had while carrying all of the expectations of what a Final Fantasy game is supposed to be. FFX is also very linear, yet it's one of the more popular entries in the franchise. I think Expedition 33 can similarly get away with linearity as long as it's able to land the other aspects with the wonder of what will happen at the final destination keeping players enticed.

FFX does get some criticism for that but it did everything else so damn well that it mostly gets a pass on it. FFXIII on the other hand has a fever dream story vomited onto you and worse gameplay.

FFX doesn't constantly have you switch between pairs until you get to the open world part. Heck, apart from Rikku and Auron, you start with everyone in Besaid and it's one long pilgrimage.

FFXIII is just disjointed with a shitty cast for the most part. It really says a lot when the only likable one is Sazh by virtue of being a straight man in all of the bullshit (and shoots himself incidentally).
Long-lost 2000s action game Captain Blood resurfaces, launches in 2024 (archive)

Announced at E3 2004, launching fall 2024 for Windows PC (Steam), Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5.

That does look like a game of that era, and man I miss that.

I absolutely love videogames.

Not pictured are a new Mario & Luigi RPG, a port of the Donkey Kong Country Returns, a new Legend of Zelda (isometric, in the same vein of the old Gameboy games) , Romancing Saga 2 remake, Fairy Tail 2, Marvel vs Capcom Collection, etc.
Far more pleasant and surprising game announcements than the entirety of this (not) E3 period, and by virtue of showing nothing but videogames. This is straight up murder against western publishers.

Also featuring another "game that was thought to be impossible running on Switch is suddenly possible now" : Stray.

What's that Spike Chunsoft game? And Butto Bird?

The Spike Chunsoft game is Kamaitachi no Yoru x3, a murder mystery visual novel.

Butto Bird is a multiplayer game where players fly around on birds while trying to shoot each other.

The second screenshot is Kamaitachi no Yoru, a collection of the three sound novels around a murder/mystery theme. The first game originally released on the Super Famicom (SNES) and is generally seen as a classic in Japan. You play as a young man in a snown mountain trip with his girlfriend, who then rest inside a lodge for a night while a blizzard is raging outside. Unfortunately, the place becomes the scene of a terrible crime as a corpse is found in several pieces while the culprit is hiding amongst the dozen residents. Further murder cases keep appearing if the player is unable to find clues, and it's possible to have various endings.

There is also an episode of Game Center CX dedicated to this game, in case you want to discover more.
I don't know in detail about the other two Kamaitachi no Yoru games but they're supposedly to be sequels with the same protagonists. Both came out on the Playstation 2.

Butto Bird is a Japanese indie and shooter game, where you control birds armed to the teeth and trying to shoot/tackle down your opponents. Seems to be heavily multiplayer-based with splitscreen. I recall it was announced to be on Steam at some point, so maybe it'll be available in English later on.
