NVIDIA DLSS 5 - Seeing salt flow with much more clarity

SMAA died so we could have instagram filters in games. It was supposedly too expensive to run, but requiring 2nd GPU to run an AI for some hallucinated frames is ok.
SMAA is as cheap as FXAA, MSAA is probably what you mean and that stopped working when games went deferred and or started doing extensive post processing if they stayed forward (IdTech), not that it's impossible anymore companies just don't want to spend the time and cost to keep it, see how Valve games are really the only AAA non VR games with it left. They also bemoan how it only does edges and not shaders and that shaders are far more complicated now, as if there is no possible way you could anti-alias in shaders too. There was a bunch of research into specular anti aliasing before TAA became a thing circa 2012 - 2014, and afterwards it pretty much all ceased except for VR.

The funny part is that DLSS 4.5 is now as expensive as 4xMSAA was in worst cases.
 
99.9% of the games this would be implemented in are not games I was gonna play anyways. The triple a industry cannot die fast enough.

pretty sure kcd 1 still cant run on rtx 2000 gpus because of the frame stuttering.
If you set it to anything past Very High, you'll still get uneven framerates. The first game may as well be unfixable no matter how much shit you throw at it.

medium was still fucked on my 2080. it played fine on my gpd mini at 720p
