Obligatory Zootopia Thread

According to one of the writers of the movie, carnivores eat fish, insects, and protein-rich foods like tofu.
It seemed like at least they managed to supplement their diets well over the past thousands of years or such to get to the point where eating tofu is just a thing they do. I would think there'd be a thing for soy-based meatless products as well if they're into veggie burgers or something. At least they can have fish (nothing in this world should be completely 100% sentient/anthro but I guess some people thought it was).

There's also no mention of birds being "evolved". They only ever mention mammals, so presumably chickens and turkey and other fowl exist as meat sources.
Fish and birds seem logical to me not to anthropomorphise at all, at least to prevent the sort of twisted ideas some people have. At least these guys could have a turkey dinner and not overthink it (unless there's animal rights groups like PETA who'd protest this).

The same writer who clarified the diet of carnivores also said that birds and reptiles do exist in Zootopia's world, they just aren't shown.

Of course it's such a vague answer, it could be any sort of thing. Perhaps the sequel will make a stink at all the reptile/bird immigrants from outside the country who'd show up to Zootopia to escape whatever war was raged in their homeland.

I was one of the people who thought this movie was pretty much going to only be a furry pandering film. Hell, the first trailer for it kind of dressed it up as one. Despite all that, I was incredibly surprised when it actually had an engaging story, believable characters, fantastic animation and scenery, great life lessons, and some really funny gags and jokes. I can honestly say this is probably on my top five favorite Disney movies now.

I knew the awkward, soft-spoken sheep lady was gonna be diabolical, and I knew Finnick was going to be some deep-voiced con artist. I've come across too many tropes of the same kind to have not seen them coming from a mile away. They were executed magnificently, though.

At least it won you over long past the teaser showing Nick in his 'birthday suit!'

  • I'm pretty sure anyone with even remotely spergy tendencies and a pulse shipped the fox and the rabbit. Also, this fanart showed up in my twitter feed and amused the shit out of me for some reason.

Fun fact: That was done by Byron Howard, who directed the movie. He also worked on the story and concept art.

Saw the movie today, and I loved it. To echo what others have said, it wasn't heavy-handed with its aesop and the use of animals in place of people had a point to it rather than just cutesy animals to draw in the kids.

He couldn't help himself!

There was certainly something in it for us.

...... I'm assuming he went with that character because of his thing with inflation?
I wouldn't doubt it.

I saw it and really enjoyed it,
I did not expect to see an Emmet Otter's Jug‑band reference!
, I think it was on par with Inside Out, maybe even a little better and way better than The Last Dinosaur so looking forward to whatever animated movie Disney comes up with next.

Oddly the advertising was really poor (And it was renamed to Zootropolis) so there was only about 6 people in the Cinema (It was a preview screening or something with it officially being released on the 25th in the UK).

It was a good one. Some people unaware of it didn't even know!

In fairness, Inside Out and The GOOD Dinosaur (just to correct you) were made by Pixar up in the Bay area, and shouldn't be lumped directly with Disney Animation Studio's camp despite being owned by the same company.

Not sure how the marketing is being done in the UK, I assume it was the same as over here in the states, of course I only had 12 people at mine on opening day (and the first Early Bird showing so I didn't expect a lot of people to ruin my first glance).

The "Zootropolis" renaming is understandable given the way legal ramifications with similar titles or brand names in other countries can spoil the fun.

Thanks for the correction about The Good Dinosaur I think I must have been thinking about Denver for some reason and mixing them up, I hear The Good Dinosaur had to change directors half way through which probably didn't help.

Anyway there's been no posters or adverts yet (Where I live anyway) which might explain it, I just expected more people it being a Disney movie, although I prefer a quiet cinema anyway so whatever.

Many viewers tend to think it's was the odd clash between the realistically detailed backgrounds and the rather cartoonier dinos that did it in.

We all do, no screaming kids to start with, but at least no fursuiters either!

The Good Dinosaur was god awful. Up there with Pixar turds like Cars 1,2 and Brave.

What's weird is that I haven't actually come across any of them myself either. I've seen a LOT of stupid Zootopia crap, but it's all just one-off dumb shit from various people and not one single person doing it all. Zootopia doesn't seem like the type of thing that would have a fandom develop around it, as it's already been diffused into the greater furry fandom for months now, just like Robin Hood and all those other similar movies.

Well thankfully it's not concentrated like MLP.
