Obligatory Zootopia Thread

I really liked it. I felt like it was well written, the action scenes were well executed, the humor was decent and the plot was actually very intriguing, while still being easy to follow. Aside from prejudice, I feel like the film tackled themes of government corruption, trust and propaganda. I was pleasantly surprised.

So I saw it last night; I really enjoyed it and I have to say, it's probably one of the best Disney movies I've seen by far. The way they handled stereotyping was pretty good; they didn't beat around the bush but it wasn't too heavy handed either.
I fucking lost it at the fennec fox accomplice though. I felt so betrayed. He was so cute but he was actually a conman.
I like Finnick, he has a kickin' van!

I just hope Disney learned its lesson from Frozen and doesn't oversaturate the market with useless Zootopia merch
Only time will tell.

At least it didn't have any unnecessary and bad musical numbers.
Good lord, yes!

I am interested in seeing this but (and I know the OP said no furry sperging but hear me out), while watching I know in the back of my mind I'll be thinking the whole time: "This is considered the great furry film of our generation".
Of course people weren't thinking that when Robin Hood came out 40+ years ago, it's one of those 'test-of-time' deals.

I thought it was pretty cute. The animation was gorgeous and you notice a lot of details like facial expressions in background characters that show that they put a lot of effort into individual scenes.
I was glad it looked the way it did, which is how I often viewed these sorts of stories in my head.

The racism thing was nicely handled, I thought. Not heavy-handed enough to be preachy, but not too subtle for what is essentially a kids movie. About the only thing I felt was forced was the Shakira thing.
Still it wasn't too much, doing "Try Everything" twice and a little big about her leading a protest in one scene. They could've gone further but didn't (besides the online deal if people hadn't noticed that yet).

Apparently some other company holds the trademark for Zootopia over there, hence the name change.
Some other countries are getting it as "Zoomania" as well, it can be confusing.

Eh it was okay.
The naturist club was pretty brief.

The movie even made a joke about that.
That was the best line to come out of Chief Bogo's mouth!

Saw it last weekend, I think it was the first Disney CGI film I saw that didn't turn to shit around the second act or the first 5 mins. Good job!
And thankfully no toilet humor, though we do get a toilet that is used for something other than a bowel movement.

Saw it with my friends - terrific movie and I'd totally see it again. Nick is the best.
I often wonder how different had it been if they went with the earlier version of Zootopia that was planned were all the predators had to wear shock collars (more of a dark Orwellian dystopia the way they had written it). This piece of test animation was what was made to show a Nick Wilde who was finally able to feel a sense of freedom once his collar was removed.

I would love this version if they ever want to do an alternate universe graphic novel of sorts. At least they didn't censor those drawings in the "Art of Zootopia" book.

It's a Disney movie. They're going to milk it until the teat is dripping blood.
I expect a comic book through IDW myself (probably get the same numbers they had with the MLP comic).

I just saw the movie today and I'm in the boat that it was a good film. The showing I was in had a pleasant lack of furries and was mostly just parents and children from what I could see. I'll take the brats over the furries.

There is nothing I can say that hasn't already been mentioned before. I was very pleasantly surprised how smart they were with the plot and the diversity theme. I heard about the depth this movie has, but I mostly dismissed it as :autism: with people tracking down ways to make it seem deeper than it really is (sometimes a cigar really is a cigar people). Usually anything with a diversity theme really makes me groan as I brace myself for the anvil to be dropped repeatedly on my head. While the anvil was dropped but I didn't feel like they were talking down to me.

Good humor, likable characters, good message, no musical number (thank you, Disney). I recommend, would see again.

Have't seen the "early bird" showing on opening day, I only had at least a dozen people in my theater, mostly parents and kids, except for one old guy with a cane who stayed with me to the very end (none of those "easter egg" stingers here sadly) until the credits were done and the lights went on. I don't think my town really has any furries to speak of besides me only being within a fridge interest in it.

It's worth it, I would say it's a smart film as well for where it went.

I think a big thing that helped the diversity not be a crashing anvil is they showed that everyone is guilty of some form of prejudice, they didn't just vilify one side. In fact, they showed why doing that exact thing is a shitty crappy thing to do. Good balance all around with the story.

Does anyone have a screenshot of the bootleg movie parodies scene?

Wouldn't they just go through a Marvel imprint? Disney already owns a comic company after-all.
Maybe, I forgot they did a Big Hero 6 comic through Marvel, it's just that everything else Disney-related seems to get bump off to other third party publications though, I would think it wouldn't be a bad idea to publish Donald Duck or Walt Disney's Comics & Stories under Marvel but apparently Marvel doesn't want to play ball, so IDW has been stuck putting those issues out.

Wished I did, but here's one doing a Google image search...

A couple movies shown are based on ones that aren't released yet (which they also bring up).

The best image I enjoyed was what was painted on Finnick's van...

Well, I couldn't find a HQ pic, but someone did film the scene on their phone!

Until it shows up on DVD or someone finds a way to take those DCP masters from the theaters, this is all we'll have for now.

My question is: what do the carnivores eat? Wouldn't them eating be considered murder?

My question is what autistic headcanons have people already formed about this important question?

Well, here's one.

Well, Carnivores can't eat the other animals, presumably, because the other animals are sentient. But there’s no word on insects, birds, reptiles, and amphibians. Zootopia is fairly high-tech, so have scientists figured out a way to create some sort of synthetic foodstuff that has all the required nutrients.

And, as per Jared Bush in his tweet, "Carnivores eat plant-based proteins and insects."
So, it means they aren't complete carnivores. They are somewhat insectivores.

Well, there we have it.
