He started working on it after the outbreak of his schizophrenia. He created his OS because God commanded him to do so and worked according to divine specifications. E.g. God prefers his OS to have 640 x 480 x 16 colos graphics, because this makes it easy for children to draw pictures for Him on the computer.

I still think God could have told him to make it compatible with 32 bit processors, as this would enable me to install it on my old laptop. But maybe they only have 64 bit machines in heaven...
