Obscure game you have played - What have you played that you think, maybe, nobody else here has played?

Went in expecting a shitty low budget shitty jrpg, got a surprisingly pretty darn good low budget jrpg. Never heard anyone talking about this game ANYWHERE, even in jrpg forums, etc

^ I guess it went under the radar because it takes place in a classical Greek setting instead of the usual generic "medieval fantasy", "space opera", and/or "modern/near-future Japan with high school students as the main characters" JRPG settings.

Baroque, a fairly interesting roguelike which I don't think too many people have played. To be honest I mostly remember it for the cool opening movie.

It's by studio Point Pictures, some people might recognise that the style is similar to the opening of Persona 3, which was also their work.

Also, the somewhat bizarrely titled R-Type Tactics II: Operation Bitter Chocolate. It was never released in English unfortunately unlike the first game, but goddamn I love R-Type to an inexplicable degree so I played it anyway.

Isn't the Heracles series a long-running thing going back to the Famicom or so?

Ascendancy by Logic Factory. It's a really obscure "space 4x" game from 1995.

There was an iOS re-release, but I've only played the DOS version.

Dunno if it's been posted already, but I was just thinking about the old 2d platformo-shooter Abuse a couple days ago.

Also, another 2d platformy shooter (but from a different era) - Soldat

Regardless if you liked the game or not, can you name a game so unknown that you suspect nobody else on the thread will have also played it?

Bonus points if you indeed have played one of these games.

Limiting rule: You have to had played it yourself. You need not have finished it.

Mine, is "Nox". A 2000 isometric fantasy RPG by Westwood studios (RIP), whom are more well known for the Command & Conquer games. It had the misfortune of being released around the same time as motherfucking Diablo 2... so naturally it got obliterated in the market.

I had fun with it, though I never finished it.

can browser games still out able to be mentioned or no? I have a few of those if yes

DUDE YES. I played the fuck out of this after I was interested in the name of the rom. I was hours deep into it because I am one of those nerds who loves Greek mythology.

In my hunts for some obscure hit fighting games, I came across Matrimelee for the Neo Geo. Doing some research, I've found that the game was one of the last Neo Geo games released and was published by Atlus and Playmore. It's part of a larger series called Power Instinct/Gouketsuji. I've heard of the earlier entries, but I've yet to play them because admittedly, they don't seem that interesting. What attracted me the most was its completely ridiculous plot; instead some evil organization or villain, the plot is that a king is holding a fighting tournament to see who gets to marry his daughter (the final boss) or his bitch of a son.

The series' super meter has this gimmick called Stress where each time your meter levels up, your character unleashes this aura that knocks away the opponent and acts as a brief shield. It reminds me of the Burst system from Arc System Works games. While it felt awkward at first, I got used to it pretty well, and adds a bit of tension in how to build up your super and activate it at the right time. I'm sure earlier games had this system too, seems like Power Instinct 2 was quite a high point based on what I've found. The game also has some damn good sprite work with some great backgrounds. Even has a lot of vocal soundtracks for a fighting game. I recommend checking it out.

The game's rom can be added to Fightcade for anyone interested, but if you're interested in multiplayer, the game's pretty dead there

Also I've played Odell's Down Under (An education game where you play as a fish and eat other fishes) that would count as obscure
Holy hell, I didn't know there was a sequel to Odell Lake!

Gonna throw my hat in with a couple here.
Tail of the Sun. This was a really bizarre but unique game, if a bit simplistic.

and

Inside a Star-Filled Sky. Picked this one up on a steam same some odd number of years ago. Strange little top down recursive SHMUP where you're a...little thing. That thing can go into other things like enemies, power-ups, and yourself. Doing so you can change how a power-up works, how an enemy shoots at you, the 'music' is very basic but dynamically changes depending on what's going on around you and...that's about it. There's no limit to how deep you go. Honestly surprised TB picked it up for how under the radar it was.

I used to play this quite a lot:
Me having played this in the past probably explains why I didn't hate NFS Prostreet as much as everybody else

^ I've seen that one at thrift stores and the Playstation 2 is pretty much my favourite console for "niche" racing games. I've been curious but never quite tempted enough to play a racing game where the racing itself is over in like 5 seconds. I will admit, the parachute braking looks like a lot of fun (probably moreso than real life where things can go horribly wrong horribly fast).

I would buy Need for Speed: Prostreet if I ever saw a clean copy at the thrift store.

Disney's Extreme Skate Adventure. I've never met someone else who played it.
SLES-51720-F-ALL.jpg
It was basically a Tony Hawk game with Disney characters, and by-god, the soundtrack was fantastic.

I played that game! I found the secret skate park at one point and never wanted to make my character leave it. I had an old save for it on a memory card from 2004 that my little sister overwrote and I was super annoyed even though I lost the disc ages ago. So much nostalgia though...
