Odd Youtube Fads

Because Google apparently has more storage space than they know what to do with, they irresponsibly extended the maximum length of videos to ten hours. Innovative users like "TehN1ppe" took advantage of this by looping pointless shit up until the very last second allowed. Andy Warhol had "Empire", our generation has this:

There are hundreds of videos like this on YouTube, taking up untold terabytes of data for no practical purpose other than for YouTube commenters to type "O.O" and make the same stupid ass jokes on each video.

I remember coming across a Nyan Cat video that was over 500 hours long.

Dead serious.

If you look up "Zydrate Anatomy" (from Repo! The Genetic Opera) on YouTube you'll find a plethora of AMV's with clips assembled to make it look like different cartoon characters are performing the song. Rarely does it ever make sense. I have no idea why this is a thing.

I heard that even Baauer regrets making that song. The only good thing about the Harlem Shake trend is that Filthy Frank made it, even though he didn't get any credit for it.

I remember rants were a pretty big thing a few years back. Everyone was ranting about something, whether it be Fox News, certain lolcows, things like the Swine Flue scare a few years back, ect.

There was also this one guy called "RandomDCE" that did these videos called "Handy Dandy Guides" that involved talking about how to improve certain cartoons, video game franchises, ect. in a step by step formula. I remember quite a few people decided to imitate those kinds of videos for a while. He got tired of making them though at some point and decided to move on to other things.

Looking back, I used to enjoy those kinds of vidoes, but now I'd imagine I'd find them to be a bit too spergy or annoying for me.

I like YTP.. I even make my own.. Why? Because sometimes they can be funny.. My coworkers and I used to have our cigarettes and watch YTP together after a day of work. Why do I make them? Mostly to entertain myself and/or my roommates. That and they're decent editing practice without having to film and script.

Those terrible "TRY NOT TO LAUGH OR SMILE! IT'S IMPOSSIBLE!!!!!11!!!" challenge videos where they simply take other videos that at best are kind of amusing and make it a "SUPER FUN CHALLEEEENGE". Most of the time Scratch that all the fucking time, all they do is just add sounds to gifs and call it a day

I had a friend years ago who watched Random DCE and other commentators. He would watch the videos when we would hang out. At first I didn't mind, but I quickly got sick of them because they were so spergy and boring. DCE and everyone else who makes commentaries all seem to give off vibes, especially when they could bitch about something so trivial such as minor changes in a video game sequel or a wrestling promo, then rant on a lolcow for doing pretty much the same things they do. Also found it weird how they ranted about each other a lot.

Those aren't the bad ones, the bad ones were the early comments. The people who believed this was real... I watched and enjoyed them but was pretty sure it was all a joke, later on someone said Duncan Trussell was behind all of it.

I think I enjoy them because I think it's interesting seeing how different demographics react to things. Like how I've always wondered how people from a long time ago wold react to the present.

The one type of these videos I like are the "People from country A try food/snack from country B" videos, but pretty sure that's just because it's interesting both to see unusual foods, and to see people reacting to foods that seem perfectly normal to me as though they were strange.
