Actually what the FUCK was Toby thinking in adding his own shit to this?? You'd think a game with its own identity and uniqueness would, idk, have its own themes? Even if it needed to be changed due to copyright, I don't know how adding Papyrus' theme to this is in anyway a "tribute" and instead comes off (lol) as a spit in the face of what the original work had going. Actual fucking L move on his part, jesus christ...
I used "cute reference" in quotes cause i believe the joke is that papyrus design is allegedly inspired by Dedan, so Toby thought putting papyrus theme would be really wholesome and respectful. But OFF is a fucking obscure unkwnown game so injecting his trademark leitmotifs over it feels like punching down.
Toby also said that composing the new pepper steak is like "breaking into Coldwood's house and plastering my face on his pictures", so i don't know why he would do Fake Orchestra like this.
I believe the idea is that Dedan directly inspired Papyrus, hence the theme. Problem is that Undertale was very big and Papyrus is a joke, and most of the people interested in OFF probably are at least aware of Undertale. If it was at least subtle I'd be more forgiving, but its very upfront through a good chunk of the song. Its very distracting though, but probably reflects worse on Mortis that he greenlit it, he's probably just cashing in. Do hope there's a mod to bring back the original soundtrack though. How was the rest of the demo?
Yeah, i know the ference and that's the thing, the entire song and Dedan gets reduced to "omg papyrus reference".
Idk much about mortis but looking at his tumblr post, Mortis saying he gave the composers freedom so the new version is "surprising and interesting" makes me think he's either scared or too trustful of Toby to give him any real input here. He says Toby does "no final decision making power" but also that he's too afraid and pressured, so it sounds like he would just allow him to do anything so Toby doesn't feel bad about it.
Afterall, if you get
Toby Fox to compose your entire game, are you
really going to tell him what to do? If the soundtrack really has the "starts quirky but gets darker as the game ends" rule (that UT fans keep using as shield without getting it's not how OFF works) then you know it was Toby's idea.
Another thing he mentions is that he replaced dopefish for Toby's Dogsona, which is... not helping Mortis case.

(the borders having modern mordis art that clash with the game sprites and artstyle is surely something)
The demo is free on steam btw, i think it has the first zone, i might play later and post some screenshots here but i havent played OFF in over a decade to compare. Some complaints include the borders and modern UI not matching the game but combat is allegedly better and require some effort now.
