While Toby Fox is a bit of a prick, absolutely no one can really fill the shoes Alias left behind. He apparently ghosted them after reading the contracts for the OFF remaster. I wouldn't blame him.

Maybe if someone collabed with Nolan Reese, Jarren Crist or most notably Akira Kuma (known for Lost In Vivo's ost and Spooky's Jumpscare Mansion) and remixed and added heavier diverse percussion samples to sound more like OFF.

Probably my most notable example of a better composer to have chosen is whoever did Clicky Gurgles.

Also my jimmies personally get twisted everytime someone says "[game] soundfont" instead of saying "[game] instrument/instrumentation/samples" when referring to a game's soundtrack because developers did NOT use """soundfonts""", they are SAMPLES recorded from their sound modules (i.e. Roland, Yamaha, Kurzweil) to be ported and used in-game played back sequentially with MIDI.
And I blame Toby for this horrendous misnomer plauging musicians when making music with old game's samples.

Huh, not really sure how to feel about this. On one hand, it's cool that there's new content and an overhauled combat system, on the other, it's still based on a nearly 2 decade old RPG Maker 2003 game, and no Coldwood on the tunes. Probably picking it up for the nostalgia at least.
Regardless, I'm way more curious on why Coldwood disappeared. Guy's pretty talented and the soundtrack was easily my favorite thing about OFF.

Oh yea thanks for pointing this out, seems its an urban myth spread by the retarded translater RecDra on starmen forums. Wow I need an actual history of OFF, because all the youtube info is fucking wrong. All info about the game is basically a lie to me now, I played the 3.0 translation.

Mortis says he never played a Mother game and it would've been very different if he played Mother 3. I figured he did due to the Batter design but its just a coincidence.

So the main inspirations are Killer7, Final Fantasy and Myst. I have to add in Silent Hill (1?) because of the joke UFO ending and the soundtrack.

I played off over 10 years ago with the first translation and it was one of the most unique games i ever played, this remake will probably be worth pirating but it's a shame it comes with the curse of modern re-release bastardizing the original art completely.

Toby makes some fun songs but i wanted to hear a toby song i would play a toby game, not a highly surreal (fake) french rpg maker game from 2008 with weird ass soundtrack. Pepper steak being replaced for lo-fi electro swing is an unforgivable sin. I fucking hate how toby gets injected into other games now.

"But Mortis said the songs get darker later on"- and that just makes it worse! OFF is a rather "offputting" game from the start and pepper steak sells that.

Now it's going to be like every generic quirky indie rpg where it starts child friendly but is actually dark and spooky!



And the worst part is seeing this fandom gaslight itself into thinking this is perfect actually








I like how toby perfectly recreated off vibes except when he doesn't but it's okay because he will recreate it BETTER later anyway since he knows OFF better than it's own composer.

I am sweating a bit after seeing Toby Fox involved, I confess.

Having finished the game, I'm not really seeing the pairing. The only thing they seem to have in common is they're both sick fucks in their own way. Even then, the Batter is almost entirely focused on his one task, so I don't think he really gives a fuck about romance.

That aside, the game's pretty damn good, but I can see why some people might not like it. The Judge's speech pattern was a bit obnoxious at first, but I got used to it.
