My friends and I decided to have an election party together since we thought it'd be fun to watch regardless of who won. It was fun, but I'm disappointed that we have to wait even longer for this shit to be over. Still 80-90% sure that Trump will win unless they pull some actual bullshit in WI, MI or PA. Fucking call Georgia and North Carolina you cowards.

It's interesting that most, though not all, posters here have apparently given up on a Trump victory. Rather than "Trump will win," the narrative being constructed is, "Biden's victory doesn't count because [X]."
Not really. We're going to be in the thick of it for some time while whatever jackass/retard responsible for tallying the votes does it at the rate of a sloth while slipping in some Bidens.

America would probably be working a lot better if they actually adhered to the original vision and let states govern themselves without trying to constantly create an overarching central bureaucracy that imposes one size fits all laws on the entire country. America doesn't need to balkanize, it just needs to get the Federal government to fuck off and do only what it was empowered specifically to do and let the people manage themselves on a state and local level.
fucking this the gop and dems both piss me off whenever they cite the constitution, we're supposed to be a loose confederation of states that really keep to themselves outside of military affairs.

Power hungry old farts who are sorely disappointed by how little power they actually have. Idiots think the president is King of the USA for 4+ years when really its been nothing even close to that since Eisenhower.
Are you going to tell him or shall I?

Are you kidding? Biden's main selling point is that he's more traditional, courteous, normal and boring than Trump. The last thing Biden is is iconoclastic.

I don't like Bidens brand of traditional.

Who else do you propose people vote for? There are very few people who run for President. It’s a bit of a shit job. The only people who are into it are power hungry old farts.
Plato was right. America needs more Philosopher Kings who see ruling as an unwelcome interruption in their thinking time to be an administrator for a bunch of plebs.

I feel kinda bad for living in NZ where we just count votes and just say "Yo! this bitch won"
How many votes do you have to count in NZ, like 10,000?

Why's [democracy bad]?
Plebiscitarian governments don't protect the rights of minorities. That's by design, that's what a democracy is. But they also undergo a predictable transformation. An oligarchical class is formed that bribes the mob that keeps them in power, and eventually the whole thing devolves into tyranny. Polybius got it right over 2000 years ago, so I will quote him:

Having then got rid of these rulers by assassination or exile, they do not venture to set up a king again, being still in terror of the injustice to which this led before; nor dare they entrust the common interests again to more than one, considering the recent example of their misconduct: and therefore, as the only sound hope left them is that which depends upon themselves, they are driven to take refuge in that; and so changed the constitution from an oligarchy to a democracy, and took upon themselves the superintendence and charge of the state. And as long as any survive who have had experience of oligarchical supremacy and domination, they regard their present constitution as a blessing, and hold equality and freedom as of the utmost value. But as soon as a new generation has arisen, and the democracy has descended to their children’s children, long association weakens their value for equality and freedom, and some seek to become more powerful than the ordinary citizens; and the most liable to this temptation are the rich. which degenerates into rule of corruption and violence, only to be stopped by a return to despotism. So when they begin to be fond of office, and find themselves unable to obtain it by their own unassisted efforts and their own merits, they ruin their estates, while enticing and corrupting the common people in every possible way. By which means when, in their senseless mania for reputation, they have made the populace ready and greedy to receive bribes, the virtue of democracy is destroyed, and it is transformed into a government of violence and the strong hand. For the mob, habituated to feed at the expense of others, and to have its hopes of a livelihood in the property of its neighbours, as soon as it has got a leader sufficiently ambitious and daring, being excluded by poverty from the sweets of civil honours, produces a reign of mere violence. Then come tumultuous assemblies, massacres, banishments, redivisions of land; until, after losing all trace of civilisation, it has once more found a master and a despot.

This is what's happening in America. Countless people find their livelihood in the property of their neighbors, there is a movement to elect presidents democratically instead of by the states, and Biden has promised to "fundamentally reform" the Supreme Court--a direct attack on one of the institutions that stands opposed to tyranny and mob rule--so things could get very bleak. It's probably inevitable, I just hope we can hold it off for a little while and maybe some miracle will happen and reverse the decline.

One thing that has flown under the radar in all of this is how freaking close the popular vote is right now. Though Trump is still behind, Biden's lead over Trump in that is far smaller than the one Hillary enjoyed in 2016 and Trump has far increased the number of people voting for him. That is a feat in itself, and says by itself that Biden is doomed to lose this election.

It is inevitable, it was only a matter of time, this year just had Corona-Chan swoop in to tear things up. But this is the best system we have right now for such a big country.

What are you even talking about? Trump is still looking to win Pennsylvania as he's at an overwhelming lead, most likely already has Georgia and North Carolina and is looking poised to take Michigan as well. How exactly has anyone given up on a victory that still seems highly likely?

They knew this was coming for years. How hard is it to double down on the counting? How hard is it to have another shift or three ready to take over in a marathon? If nothing else it would be an obvious to an elementary school kid measure to prevent chaos. But instead if you appear to hang up your hat in the middle of 'the most important election of our time' by your own statement to go to bed once Trump starts leading or suddenly not be taking this any more seriously than your usual day job. Well it will rightfully raise suspicions that shenanigans are afoot.

Not to mention isn't it funny how it seems the ballots being 'found' or dropping here and there seemingly out of nowhere and at the last minute are Dem always or usually? You'd think by statistics Republicans would have this happen in their favor more often.
I really doubt that Trumpoids would accept a Biden victory as legitimate under any circumstances, at this point. Anyway, if you're so concerned that polling station workers aren't doing their jobs properly, why don't you apply to work or volunteer at a polling station?

Yes, yes, Joe Biden kissed the top of his daughter's head at his son's funeral; how horrific.

I'm referring to the discussion in this thread, not the results of the election.

Plato and every other philosopher fellating 'Philosopher Kings' were up their own asses thinking they knew how things should be run yet never actually tried to run things. What America and every nation needs is a leader who just does what's best in the interest of their country. Even if they fuck up once in a while, they're still doing something. Trump turned out to be that one crazy fucking guy who said he wanted to do some crazy shit that might not work out but would be awesome if it did and it fucking did.

Positions of power are traps for the idiots who seek it, though it gives them the ability to bring ruin to everyone else along with themselves.
