There is definitely a homoerotic element involved in some of the more detailed drawings. Anecdotally, years ago I read an article about street children in Russia (and a group that helped them) - children not even in their teens or younger teens would draw dicks on pavements when they were given chalk by volunteers, because most of them had been sexually abused.
