For all the whining men do about family courts, I have never witnessed a single instance (not to PL but I have a perspective on this) where a capable father was railroaded or denied access to his kids for no reason. There are extreme cases like abuse, certainly, but more commonly it was just a husband who had decided he could pick and choose what aspects of childrearing he would be involved in, and his wife would take care of the rest. Courts side with the mother the vast majority of the time because the mother is the better parent the vast majority of the time.

I don't think this is as serious as a lot of people are making it out to be on the part about the 13 year old boy getting a very brief boot. Yes, personalities are developing and busy chipping away at the stone that is their finished adulthood. No, it's not finalized to the point of him being a completely lost cause that needs to go out with the husband trash. The son was only ejected into a hotel and not their car, (not even for long enough to miss out on funsies) to hopefully get a taste of what it's like without their 'servant'. Everyone calm down.

She absolutely did the right thing in kicking the boy out with the husband; those guys don't deserve the reward of enjoying mother-made holiday time without lifting a finger after doing that to her. Knowing that he was being made into the kind of person he was emerging as by his father, he needed a very serious wake up call that served to demonstrate two things. That a) Mom's serious and she's done playing around with your behavior and b) if you lived in Dadland without Mom and big sister to wipe your ass, your life would be nothing but shit and it would be Dad's fault because he refuses to be a parent. If she didn't do something drastic, there's no way this kid would ever have a chance at becoming functional, and we see it every damn day in the west because most "parents" refuse to put their foot down with this kind of behavior. With or without the father, he still won't have a chance if the mother doesn't keep hold of her resolve towards him while he's still living with her. This is an adolescent quickly turning into what he will be like as an adult and it has nothing to do with anger towards the father. If that were the case, the kid wouldn't have immediately been given the chance that his father wasn't.

I've been at least partially in that poor woman's shoes and spoken with many other women who also have been and I can tell you all this for a fact: if you're with a man who uses you as a personal servant, cleans nothing because he knows he has a higher tolerance for messes and all he has to do is hold out until you can't take it anymore and clean it yourself after you'd resolved to leave it and make him do it, there is no fixing him. At best, he will create a cycle of doing this until you snap and bring about consequences, play good boy just long enough to get out of the doghouse, then go right back to being less than worthless until you snap again. The only way you will ever not have to clean up after him is if he's not there to shit up your home anymore. Now imagine living like that while such a pig slob was successfully duplicating himself, not just physically. What a nightmare I'm glad I dodged.

As an aside, why weren't the husband and son with the husband's side of the family while ejected and expecting to remain so over Christmas until January? I'd bet money that a guy like that makes zero effort to maintain family relations outside of the home, seeing as how he refuses to do so with those within. So does his family ignore him, or are they going as far as to side with his wife who likely maintains a relationship with them? I'd be interested if there's some background on this available.

The Edmonton Mall sex assaults, where six girls were assaulted by a Syrian refugee back in 2017 or so, go no media coverage aside from Rebel News. You'd have to get creative, but even then, you'd better hope there isn't more than one. AITA for refusing to replace my flatmate's shoes and skirt she ruined while doing a chore.

I (27M) live with a flatmate (26F) who is also my friend.

She was leaving to go to some friends and was dressed up and had some fancy clothes on. As she was leaving, she asked me if there's any rubbish to take out in my room as she was going to take out the rubbish and place it in the building communal bins on the way out.

I was actually going to do this myself but since she offered I told her there's a bag of rubbish in my room and everything is already in the bag. She's done this for me before and knows that the bag can be somewhat heavy.

She didn't support the bag at the bottom and it broke and a some of the bottles inside the bag fell out and their caps burst. This made a really bad stench and her skirt and shoes were drenched in it.

She blamed me for it and said I owe her new shoes and a skirt and she showed me what they were on a website and while the skirt isn't too bad, the heels are ridiculously expensive. I refused and said she should have been a bit more careful.

She called me an AH and said I shouldn't be having such bottles in the bin even though she knew about that from before and even though she's since cleaned the shoes and they look alright she's acting more cold towards me.

Can I talk about how much I hate the double standard argument ? I used to have a shoeonhead phase where I agreed that men abuse wasn't taken seriously until I witnessed the complete opposite. I just had a video in my recommendation about weird age gap in movies. I tend to look at the comments before watching a video to give me an idea of the content. It was all whining about older women hitting on teenage boys and pretending the reverse is never accepted. They complain that Harry style used to go out with older women as a teen "if the role were reversed, you would see it for what it is!" when in fact, 40 year old men routinely hit on 16 year old and dump them at 25, something that is both ignored and encouraged because "women age like milk". All the discussions about male rape represent women as the abuser when it's generally a case of male on male abuse. I stopped taking the "men abused by women are never respected " seriously because most of their examples are from movies, comic books or fucking family guy episodes, never real life. Guess what: it's normal that it's easier to laugh at female on male abuse. Because it doesn't happen 1% as much in real life. It's like getting mad that you can laugh at a kid kicking a grown man in the balls but not a man beating up a kid.
Tldr: every discussion of female abuse is met with screeching of "but what about the the poor men???!!!!!".

Those types rarely end up in family court because they just won't contest custody at all, at best they'll resurface occasionally to pay child support or maybe call the kid(s) on holidays/birthdays. For the ones that do, it's often less about suddenly wanting to step up and be a parent than it is about control and ownership. You can see it in the language they use: "She's taking my (not her, not our) kids."

There’s also the statistic that when men petition for their children they’re more likely to get them.

If they petition they'll likely get *something* just because petitioning is already going above and beyond what the normal deadbeat dad would do. But they likely won't get more than 50/50 custody even if that's what they're asking for unless something is very, very awry with the mom.

A famous example of the exception to the rule is Kevin Federline getting full custody of his two sons with Britney Spears despite Spears being a famous multimillionaire and Federline being a dumb unemployed wigger from Fresno with two kids already. Britney had been so well-documented as being a wildly unstable drug addict that the judge really had no choice. Another famous example is Josh Homme of Queens of the Stone Age getting full custody of his kids with Brody Dalle despite being a massive alcoholic and manchild because Brody was a vindictive lunatic and her new boyfriend was a violent junkie. When these decisions are made IMO it's generally the right one, but they are very much the exception.
