This is not an overarching generalisation on male-female relationships and spaces in general, this is very specific to hospitals in the 1970s and is what I was told by a female nurse who worked in the 1970s, who said it was common for a lot of nurses back then to treat their job as a pathway to marry a doctor and get out of the shitty mining town I came from. If it helps, she also said the male nurses back then were all overcoddled confused idiots who got pushed through their (already very rudimentary) training because the hospital just wanted more male muscle to help deal with violent patients, and they got away with skipping out on most of their actual nursing duties.

If it was in the 60s and 70s when they needed a muscle and you were the only guy , you were a very valuable resource that might save your career and back . Tbh anything that gets you out of working in nursing in the current year plus one is a prize. like the profession itself is toxic to average human, the hours, the patients and the doctors plus administeators i imagine it was far less worse than today but still bad you have to wrangle, lift and restrain a whole human used to be between 120 and 200 pounds but today you are lucky if the patients are bellow 200 pounds . I had few stints in the loony bin and i was genuinely sorry for nurses in there . You can't use chemical restraints if the patients are asshole but somewhat not dangerous and there are " ways" to handle them without punching the fuck out of them or loading them up with sedatives because of the administration and paperwork. But you risked getting punched , bitten and yelled at by deranged patient not to mention the night shifts that fuck with your mental state .

Yeah I have a hard time believing women are fighting to date a male nurse when there are doctors around, doctor who usually end up dating a woman from work because they don't have any time to date much. Maybe if he was super duper ridiculously hot and also really kind and good at his job, but how many men like that are there in a field where men are already uncommon?

You resolve it banning the people (men and women) who make the group about themselves or bring up inappropriate topics. But women are socialized to be accommodating and kind and are generally not capable of the level of 'fuck this and fuck you' that men are capable of.
