From reading the teacher subreddit seems these days there's a policy of "least restrictive environment" for special ed students. The idea is for the special ed kids to integrate more and not be ghettoized. Which sounds nice...but in reality it's just an excuse to cut special ed programs and the tards disrupt normal classrooms and don't get the care they need.

I think a not insignificant portion of this is innate. You can tell the boy had given absolutely 0 thought to how the woman would receive his blunt criticism. The girl drops a tactful "this is a bit salty" and in private says she was concerned about the woman's feelings ("I felt bad for her").

Yeah. I get why people don’t want their children to end up in special ed, beyond your personal disappointment in your progeny and social embarrassment, it significantly hurts the child’s chances of doing well later in life. Why would you hire someone who went to special ed when you could hire someone who didn’t? But the result of “mainstreaming” a special ed child isn’t going to be that they’re suddenly well adjusted for normal life, it’s going to be that they disrupt their peers, become/get bullies, and enter adulthood illiterate or innumerate. If the outcome is going to be kind of bad either way, special ed that also lets them interact somewhat with their peers is probably the way to go. But I can’t imagine that ever being a positive experience for either side.

I think it depends on what specific disabilities you’re referring to.

If it’s a disability that involves lack of social skills, being around peers with better social skills can help model behavior for that particular person. Sometimes the best teacher is just learning through trial and error, and that’s very applicable in social skills development.

Speech impediments are also under the special education umbrella, and simply having one shouldn’t mean you aren’t allowed to interact with those outside of special education. A kid that’s okay developmentally and intellectually, but just can’t say “r” sounds very well is perfectly capable of a typical classroom environment, and if the student has an IEP that involves at least weekly speech therapy sessions during or after school, speech impediments can go away within a year or so of consistent work.

Intellectual disabilities are oftentimes harder to integrate into normal classrooms, and those also vary in severity. The most severe cases often aren’t even in public schools to begin with, as the staffing often in public schools isn’t equipped to handle it.

My biggest peeve when people discuss special education as a whole is that it is over generalized, and disabilities are much more nuanced. It’s why any decent school district would have people trained in special education, and integrate it into the normal curriculum for that student. Even disabilities like Downs Syndrome have such a spectrum that not all kids with Downs Syndrome can even have the same educational plan.

Anyway, back on topic, I just want to say that society as a whole gives moids way too much of a pass for violent behavior. There’s a reason why moids make up majority of the prison population, but even that’s not enough of a deterrent. At the very least, in an ideal world, convicted domestic abusers and rapists would be sent to war to be used as cannon fodder or as mine sweepers. Death penalties are too expensive, so those moids could make themselves useful as meat shields. If any still manage to survive, they’ll become miners.
