I'm trying not to PL, but I keep running into a problem at work that relates to this, I think.
I'll have a new female student, and she'll have a little brother. The female students have to hide their supplies, and "get into" their sisters' stuff, and tear it up. And sometimes, they end up keeping their stuff at a relative's house. But this is bad for me, because it makes them forget their things when they come over, or it keeps them from practicing altogether.
So what happens?
They quit.
The parents say they, "really want to keep learning" with me, but they can't because the little brother ruins it. But instead of trying to tame their hellish boys, they end up punishing their daughters by pulling them from my lessons.
(And, I mean, this hurts my bottom line, too.)
It's driving me insane to notice! The girls are always meek, quiet, sweet, and their brothers come in like a damn tornado. Why are they seemingly just letting the boys off the hook for being assholes to their sisters!
Why do they push for emotional maturity, and meekness in girls, but then just let the boys act like they're raised by wolves!

I'm not advocating for hitting or beating children. That doesn't solve anything, and just teaches them they violence solves things.
I'm genuinely baffled and frustrated about it.
I'm pretty sure my boss is only giving me entry-level students, too, and giving the upper-level learners to my male coworkers. Because we can only teach little babies. But that's just my own anger, ringing in my ears.
