Men definitely don't see fat or ugly women as humans. They get treated even worse. Honestly there are few privileges to being conventionally attractive as a woman, I don't think we have to pretend like men don't act like totally pathetic sniveling simps all the time to try and get you to fuck them. Men will bend over backwards for a pretty woman, give you shit for free or get you otherwise preferential treatment. I don't think it's evil or manipulative to take advantage of this.

What men don't understand about this "easy life" is that men don't treat you nice without hidden motive and expect sex in exchange for their "kindness" and when you don't return the favor they get angry and violent a lot of the time because you were "leading them on" by accepting something you thought was just kindness.

I remember a few years ago bringing up the fact that I wasn't even a teenager when I first experienced men looking at me as if I were a woman and as if girls and women were pieces of meat to salivate at to start with in front of a group of close friends, mostly women with a few boyfriends and husbands who were then considered vetted by the group, and one of them laughing and being like, ''I wish that were me, men barely get acknowledged in that way and it can be soul-crushing to feel invisible!'' which... sure, I guess, if you truly do get treated as though you're socially invisible I'm sure that would hurt and mold the way you look at the world, but what does that have to do with feeling gross and embarrassed with the way men choose to interact with you and with the fact that children who are girls are looked at with lust? I genuinely do believe that men have difficulty empathizing with how difficult that is to live through and how that informs the way you'll look at men going forward. It's smart to be wary of men when you as well as basically every minor girl you know has been made to feel disgusted by the bodies we're all growing into because people who showed you seemingly benevolent and ''disinterested'' kindness your whole life suddenly treat you entirely differently and you wonder what you've done different and end up being told by your mother and grandmother that this is just how it's always been, you did nothing wrong, but that there are new things to be afraid of that goes beyond a house fire or getting lice. I've heard this irl before and asked questions and apparently it must be from a woman because they need to feel desired without caring to become desirable and push it back on shit like height and baldness. I'm sure it makes dating harder if it happens at a time that isn't considered to be expected, to be fair, but the fact is that it's silly and juvenile to expect women to up and compliment them when most of us would love to be more invisible if anything and we legitimately don't compute unsolicited compliments as being desirable.

My dad had a lot of issues but the real problem in my family was my mom, who is a malignant narcissist. My parents also weren't fundies or anything, the people I know with religious parents especially tend to have much shittier dads (not all, but a lot).

It's pretty horrific how far perception and reality are parted.
I believe it as a male, because I've heard the horror stories of constantly being cat called, often being followed even for long stretches and generally being looked at as an object of sexual gratification at a VERY early age, alarmingly frequently, from women I trust or was in a relationship with.

I would have a hard time believing or seeing it otherwise and I think this happens, besides the obvious reality of this not happening to you as a guy, due to "good" socialization in a way.
If you're raised by parents to consider this behavior abhorrent, it makes it really hard to conceive of a world where it happens all the time. If you consequently surround yourself with people raised similarly, you probably won't notice unless it happens to a woman close to you, or until you get out of school and enter a place where there's more intermingling of social classes (the workplace and/or higher education).
That's the reality divide / fever dream thing you describe basically.
When you do happen to see it at a club or something, you rationalize it away, as being either this specific environment or the exception to the rule (because how often do you go to the club and how often do you actively notice it even there, as a guy).
