Indeed, it was crafted so. One can determine this solely by textual analysis: the tone begins in a casual style, and then morphs into something more grand, a style more akin to Tolkien. That was, indeed, a big part of the joke that seems to have been unfortunately overlooked, or perhaps ignored. Even the question of subspecies is not one I even care about, for upon reading such a theory on this very website, I laughed to myself. Perhaps I am too progressive, too liberal, but that was an honest reaction from the heart, not something developed after deep thought.
