My mother runs a charity that deals with domestic abuse, the women are also just as bad as the men. Fatima may not murder her daughter, but she will slap the shit out of her, and lock her in her room for days without food, because Fatima doesn't want to get on the plane and go get infilbrated by some spastic with a rusty knife in Pakistan. It's a pervasive cultural issue, there are very few women from these cultures that actually demand them to change, or even want them to change; and the ones that do are shamed, and harassed by the others.

It's like gypsy culture in the UK; when the 14 year old doesn't wanna get married and spend her life locked in a caravan, it's the other girls (because the boys aren't let near them on pain of beatings by the girls fathers), that go tell the aunts, and grandmothers.
