I wonder how the rise of FtMs corresponds to the increased availability of internet access, not just from the aspect of a social contagion, but from seeing with their own eyes how women are treated around the world. It's one thing to read/hear about the horrors and statistics, another thing to see images, and a whole other thing to see countless videos posted depicting the brutality that women in particular are faced with.

It almost seems as if older generations had the benefit of being gently introduced to the reality of being a female, whereas young people today can easily stumble on this graphic shit. Imagine a 10 year old going from simply thinking "people do bad things during wartime" to seeing that video of the woman with the bloodied pants in a jeep that was swarmed by men and just how shocking full comprehension would be. Young people have an idea of what the world is like, but still need time to process at their own pace without having graphic accounts of rape and death confronting them on every digital screen.

It's no wonder they resort to delusional methods to escape. I thought I was immune to it too, but my first thought on seeing that video was "I get it, little pooners.
