MRA-types and very libfem pickmeishas argue that men also suffer in patriarchy by being expected to conform to their patriarchy's idea of masculinity, expectations and values, that men in this system are always forced to be macho, stern, stoic/not express their emotions, be the provider and the leader. They argue that because of these limitations and pressure to conform, men are unable to vent out their emotions in a healthy way, form healthy, affectionate close friendships like women are able to with their other each other and that they aren't allowed to be more compassionate, sensitive, empathetic, nurturing and etc. because these traits are associated with women exclusively. They say that if men do display these traits on their own they face stigma from "society" and because they are forced to act like a stoic macho they are barred access from being able to work jobs such as being a caretaker or a babysitter, even pursuing other careers that are considered "female ones".
Except this argument falls very flat on its head when you remember that:
1) Pros still outweigh the cons massively when you are a male in this system.
2) It's not the "society" that condemns men when they don't want to be stoic machos, it's other men that condemn and police them while women are more likely to encourage them to be themselves and be open with their feelings but instead of following that advice, they accuse women of being insidious with that advice and trying to brainwash them into being emasculated emotionally unstable cuck soyboys.
3) Despite them saying how men suffer in patriarchy too, if they were actually given an opportunity to abolish the patriarchy and start a whole new system where they would not be burdened by the expectations of patriarchy, none of them would actually do this because as mentioned above pros outweigh the cons for them, even the most "chivalrous" men that are "for women" wouldn't do it. They're not any different than your average rich bougie commie from California that loves going "I HATE AMERICAN CAPITALISM I WISH I WAS IN COMMUNIST COUNTRY!!" until they get told to leave the USA and move to the greener pastures of Cambodia where their livelihood will depend on how many rice fields they manage to harvest in a day, then they just sneer and hiss at whoever called them out.
