I guess so. My own registration date wouldn't tell you that I've lurked on and off since probably about the time this place came into existence.
It does seem every time there's a happening, we get a flood of new people. If there isn't one already, maybe Null should consider a brief freeze on new registrations.

We just got out of one after the Sharty went down. If there's a bunch of newfags, I figure it's probably because that one ended, or maybe an increase in new interest after the WaPo hitpiece.

I haven't been tracking the BMJ thread, so I don't know how bad it is overall, but the ween who sent a pizza (dumb) and then admitted to it (very dumb) got mocked, had someone explain that's not what happens here, apologized (after "u mad?"-ing, unfortunately), and then got threadbanned. Maybe he'll go back to weening, but that seems like the best outcome you could get, short of wanting him banned from the whole forum. At least he's not doing shit like drawing attention to himself while reusing usernames, like so many new people do.

You summed up the newfag cowtipping in that thread pretty well. I agree that the best overall outcome happened in that particular case. I just have a feeling we won't see the end of retarded behavior in there for awhile.

I never tried to pretend to be an oldfag. I'm aware of what my join date is, but I'm being honest when I say that my join date doesn't tell you everything. Same can apply to a lot of other users. I said it before, but I'll say it again: being a newfag is not simply a join date, it's a state of mind. Ignorance and an unwillingness to get with the program with how the community operates are two components to this.

Regardless, I'd rather not be an oldfag. I've seen some really stupid spergy shit from some oldfags this year. I mentioned them on the pages above.
