I wondered what they were. Figured it was a dangly thing from castle or fabuland or a tecnic thing

They were used in gray sporadically up till the 2000s, but the yellow ones were only ever used for homemaker hands. The small ball and socket system has been around forever but was mostly forgotten during that time. Modern lego has been using it much more frequently in the past decade, but that particular piece has yet to make a return.
