Being a station engineer is no fun let me tell you:

>be me
>newly transferred station engineer, arrive 30 minutes into the station shift, only one onboard
>everyone's bitching because no power
>AI says he'll fix solars, say i'll do it, I gotta learn it might as well do now.
>Get a fucking immovable rod smashed through my body while suiting up.
>AI Borg drags me to med
>Get healed going back to get suited up
>Entire station gets radiation leak, spend 2 minutes in the maint' tunnels hoping my body didnt get Chernobyl'd
>Get to work
>AI shows me how to set up the first Solar Array
>Thanks AI
>Go arond fixing an other Array, fought one Carp and barely holding on but the shift must go on
>Go towards last array, fucking space shark cruising around
>Run from shark who is currently lusting after my space ass
>See these blue circles everywhere, they look familiar
>Arrival shuttle warps in and and gibs me into oblivion
>Evac shuttle is called 2 minutes later.
>few nights ago
>roll Station Engineer since nobody's in Engineering and them lights need to stay on
>making my way around unfamiliar map to find and wire each solar (I ain't fucking touching the SM setup anytime soon)
>wiznerd running around killing shit
>does it right in front of me near medbay at some point
>just stand there, watch, tell him "None of my business."
>medbay is soon bitching about losing power
>The fuck? I made sure the medbay solars were wired.
>go check
>platform leading into the solars airlock, and the accompanying wires, have been destroyed
>Fffffffffine. Good thing I know how to rebuild this.
>start working on reconstructing the platforms to lay down the wire
>wiznerd fireballs my ass
>laying there in near crit as he comes flying up
>just tell him "Very cool, well meme'd"
>he mcfucking ends me

It's hard out here for an Engineer.

Speak of SM, just blew up my first one:

>be station engi
>look at wiki trying to figure out pressure valves
>after setting everything up ask AI if everything's okay
>"Looks Fine"
>Turn on emitters
>2 seconds later: Supermatter Integrity at 95%
>It's not fine.
>Some guy out of nowhere rushes in with an extinguisher
>Throws me extinguisher, tells me to cool the core
>"Yeah i'll not fuck it up."
>Proceed to fuck it up by filling the chamber with resin
>Door is also resin'd
>Bash door, can't get resin off
>"How did you manage to make it worse? It's impressive."
>"I am doing my part."
>My rad suit is leaking because previous fight in Atmo with aggressive horde of rats
>Literally 2 minutes later the SM is at 10%
>Entire SM room is hyper pressurized and I pass out
>Guy tries to drag me out
>He gets electrocuted by a door
>We die
>SM dies

Did it at least turn into Singuloth during the high pressure delamination?

Goddamn I love this game
>be chef
>paired up with the biggest chad of them all: Vladimir Thundercock
<unfortunately my buddy Vladimir has a bit of the old autism
<unfortunately so do I
>just making burgers minding our own business
>a geneticist walks up to our booth and offers a cure for our autism
>slaps two syringes filled with cure-for-autism-juice on the counter
>I shrug at Vladimir and empty the syringe in my arm
<I grow antennae and start glowing
<surprisingly autism is gone
>geneticist informs me that I now work for Central Intelligence agency
>Vladimir takes the other syringe and injects it
<too bad the side effect of this cure was manletism
<too bad Vladimir's autism went to overdrive
<mämmä miä börgel burgel :---DDDD t. Vladimir
>Vladimir now has all the accents in the game and developed Tourette's syndrome
<FUCK NIGGGER t. Vladimir over the comms
>Vlad starts convulsing violently and yelling profanities over the comms
>drag Vladimir to the medbay
>watch hopelessly as Vladimir Thundercock starts slapping all medical staff who try to help
>watch hopelessly as the doctors drag Vladimir away to places I have no access to
<Godspeed Vladimir

If you pump plasma into the SC chamber it makes the crystal more efficient. Great trick when you're solo eng
I've been fucking around on a local test server all morning trying to figure out the SC and I can't get it to stably work with anything other than N2. This shit makes no sense to me.

It's supposed to be chilled, I think. I'm unrobust AF but afaik chilling the SC makes it happier, whereas increasing the energy in the chamber will make it delam.

I think the N2 runs through chillers before it hits the SC. What happens if you were to blow a hole in the SC chamber? My suspicion is that it wouldn't send the crystal into delam because of how cold space is.

He's just fucking with you. Putting plasma into the mix will make it explode really fast.

One of the last-ditch solutions to fixing a SM delam is to deconstruct one of the floor tiles and let all the gas escape into vacuum. It does work, but it's hard to fix.

Few things here, as I learned from wiki warrior'ing the SM setup:

Cold stabilizes the SM shard, which also makes it incapable of producing energy, but is necessary to keep it from blowing the fuck up.
Heat destabilizes the SM shard (by varying degrees), which produces energy, but requires just the right balance of cooling to both keep it heated AND to stop it from delaminating.

Space, while indeed cold, is not the coldest cold possible in the coding. Technically speaking, an upgraded freezer can cool even colder than the cold of space. If you have a cooling loop being aided by a freezer, a breach on the space side of things can actually cause a warming effect on the gases being used due to space somehow being warmer than a freezer.

He's just fucking with you. Putting plasma into the mix will make it explode really fast.
Not technically true. As long as you have a decent cooling setup, putting plasma into the mix shouldn't be too dangerous.

It has to be within a particular temperature range. Too cool and you get no power, too hot and it loses integrity. It glows orange when you hit the sweet spot. You can also lower its sensitivity to heat or other such things with certain gas mixes. N2 is the safest, but if you use CO2 for example it will increase the power output. I'm too dumb for a machine this finnicky.

I can setup both the Turbine and the SM now without using a checklist but I really want to learn more than the basic-bitch N2 supermatter.

Plasma can be dangerous because it will react with the natural O2 the supermatter generates to create Tritium, and once that happens shit will get real hot real fast. I think cooled tritium is theoretically the most power output but it's a huge pain in the ass. You can produce it in the Turbine or in Toxins. Right now I'm trying to figure out an N2/CO2 mix. I've got the N2 looping and I'm slowly letting CO2 in from the pure line and watching what the ratio becomes before it starts to cause problems.

My long term atmosia goal is to figure out how to refine solid Hydrogen.

>not wishing to achieve stable Hellburn

This setup is what all true Atmosians strive for.

Teach me your secrets.
I never said I was a true Atmosian.

But I do know that stable Hellburn is the dream of many. I remember there being one guy who constantly hopped between all of /tg/'s servers who was a goddamned wizard at SM setup and atmos, and was willing to teach his ways if you could catch him during a round.

All right, time for a little story time. I have to say that, as many of you, this is my first time playing. When Null announced the server I googled the game and became excited, but I know how ruthless you faggots can be and thought I'd be better off learning the ropes elsewhere (just to end up realizing the kiwi server is actually pretty nice and there's a good balance between newfags and oldfags). My first few days wandering around as a staffie in /tg/ and goonstation were mostly uneventful (besides the ocassional game were shit would go down for me), but I was hooked. I really wanted to get into a profession, but the problem was that I could not even open a pack of cigarrettes properly, so I was still kind of retarded regarding the controls. At my first kiwi game, I chose a janitor called George Floyd who, funnily enough, died because of withdrawal symptoms of krokodile. If it weren't ironic already, Niggerman Rub helped me around as much as he could to keep me alive, even when I was arrested for murdering a guy (hey, he asked me to beat him to death and I complied). The next day I thought I read enough of medicine to try the profession. I don't know what drew me to it, probably that it's a noble work and can become handy to know first aids in any chaotic situation. I created Hans Handke, with the Medic from TF2 in mind. Now, what I like the most about multiplayer games is that you can make friendships. Call me a softie, but I love my online pals, and after you go through a lot of shit in a game it makes you feel like you're close, you know? So the stories I want to tell you are divided in the friendships I've made that made me learn and love the game.

So my first day at Medbay there was this CMO called Sheryl Landers. She made sure everybody got treated, and I think at first it was only the two of us. I still had no idea how to open a bottle of pills, but Sheryl was really nice with me and helped me in every single step possible. Then she suddenly told me I needed to perform a coronary bypass. Although the steps are available at the Wiki, I felt that I wasn't ready. Yet I did it, and it was a success, and that led me to try other more risky stuff. Our first rounds at Medbay were iffy; we couldn't save many of those that came in dying, but we learned a lot of stuff. She was demoted for not being a good CMO and confessed me that she just learned medicine too. We died a couple of times in fun ways, but in the end we always came back as a team and really learned how to set up everything quick. The downside is that it seems that she just stumbled upon the server by chance, because when I told her about the thread here she didn't seem to know what I was talking about. But what I will always admire from her was her willingness to help others and her almost child-like curiosity and experience she learned from trial and error, as well as her ventures to chemistry. Thank you, Sheryl, and I hope I can see you again.

So after she got demoted, our next CMO was Tradwife. She's a fucking badass; she really knows her field and is just so responsive really quick. She also has a witty personality and loves Runtime, the cat that's locked in the CMO's office. She's saved my ass countless of times and she always seems to end up uninjured, except that only time I had to put her on cryo. We've had amazing rounds, such as when she found the cure for the sleepy coof, or when the giant penis monster attacked, or when the bots went rogue and kept arresting us. Sheryl, Trad and I worked as a great team, too, even in times of adversity, such as when the raditation caused me to appear dying on the floor in random parts every ten seconds, and they tried to save me, just for me to disappear again and end up dying in some kind of small office. Next time we play I'll make sure to make up for everything she's thought me, and the compliments that I've received when I have revived someone actually come from following Tradwife's advice.

So when Dahmer arrived he was just a weird guy that kept to his own. Now, I don't have anything against Murdoch Murdoch, but he can't handle being CMO and the rounds I've had where Medbay is his get messy, really messy. It also doesn't help much that most of those rounds have been full of cultists ready to blow us up. In fact, Dahmer and I didn't really get close until that happened. This fucking jihadist came and chopped my head off, and I spent there like 10 minutes on the floor, decapitated. I was giving up on hope, nobody seemed to give a fuck about my corpse and because of the nature of my wounds I thought my only chance to come back to life was to be borged, but boy, fucking Dahmer saw me lying around, threw out some random prisoner nigger from the bed and started fixing me. The fucking madman actually went ahead and replaced all my internals with robotic parts, then attached my head and, to my surprise, it fucking worked. One of my legs seemed unresponsive, and eventually gave up while we were in a small escape shuttle eating pizza, but I was alive, damn it, and didn't expect it to end in (almost) one piece. We played a few more rounds and got really close. You're a cool guy, Dahmer, I'll make sure to get some cuban cigars for you next time.

I don't remember the names of them all unless I see them again, but there's been some wonderful staff helping us and getting mixed in all these shenanigans. Really makes the game a lot more enjoyable, and some have saved my ass a couple of times. I remember a girl that died with me because we were locked in a fire and we just layed down and shared some nice, last words. I remember some paramedics, especially a male one, that were really quick to respond and just amazing. I remember this guy that was really fucked up and I repaired him, but he still had awful brain damage and just sticked around as the funny retard. Good times.

I also want to apologize to Paris Moon, Saul Goodman and all others that end up dead many times and beyond repair. I'm sorry I couldn't have saved you, but if all of your internals are fucked, you have severe brain damage (and wearing a mask that can't be removed) and your blood level is 12% there's just not much we can do.

Got the sleeping virus, usually I have managed to avoid it on mining station but holy shit it really does make the game unplayable.
